Looking to buy a 11.6" or 12" netbook....budget 25k

Please suggest some netbooks that are available in India.

The net book should have

Good battery life.
Good build quality
2gb ram

I'd avoid getting the mini if I were you. My experience with HP products is that they are

a> overpriced for what they offer and

b> prone to failure due poor quality, rickety laptop assembly.

(I don't think HP does any kind of study on how their products are put together and why their products fail.)

HP offers 1 year warranty on their products. If a product is repaired or replaced, HP offers only 3 months warranty on the replaced part after which you have to pay full price.

I can't tell you how much money I've wasted with HP products over the years. I'd been to the HP service centre recently. Had to wait 1 and a half hours (due to large no.of customers waiting) to submit an HP laptop of which I'd already replaced the screen earlier for 8,000/-. During this time, I personally saw two minis coming in for repair.

First of all, the service contract in Bangalore had changed from EnnEss to Maha electronics. Maha electronics refused to repair my laptop

- by saying first that EnnEss should repair it and

- then by saying that 90 days for screen replacement is over and asked me to pay another 12,000/- (their price for screen repair) to get it fixed.

A 12-inch netbook makes much sense than a normal 10-inch one. I am saying this based on using 10-inch Samsung netbook for last 6-7 months. But 12-inch netbboks are not so common in India, as they are priced higher, and you can get entry level laptops by making a few thousand rupees extra. Your options are:

1). Asus 1210 - This has good build quality and 2GB RAM, but no OS and not-so-great battery life. Cost ~ 21K

2). You can also see MSI-x340 which is a 13-incher laptop. Quite sleek with decent build, but poor battery life. Cost ~ 20K.

If you want to go for normal 10-inch netbook recent models from Asus/Samsung will be good enough.

I would recommend a ASUS 1201T or ASUS 1215N (yet to be available in India).. The former would cost around 21K & the latter around 26K..

MSI X340 would have been a good choice if the build quality & battery life was better..

I was also confused between a 12" netbook or a 14" laptop & finally brought a ASUS K42JC..

the MSI X340 looks promising but how is the battery life ? and how good is the keyboard ?

and is the processor Core 2 solo thats in the X340 better than the atom N450 ??

The flimsy build quality of the MSI X340 is more of a concern than the battery life.. The X340 comes with a standard 4-cell battery which is good enough for some 2-2.5 hours (as per reviews read somewhere)..
