I am already have a philips (HTS 5100) setup with my PC for watching movies.

I really need a best 2.1 speaker setup to listening music with excellent :eek:hyeah: EXCELLENT:hap2: Excellent  QUALITY……………

Price range should be 12 to 15k..

I am in the mind that to brought the Altec MX-5021 THX, but my collegue said that nowadays the Quality of these are crapped a lot:huh:   !!!!!

Please help me to choose the simple MX-5021 or any other setups: NOTE: I am chennai:) , please tell me the shops that available?

I bought Altec lansing MX-5021 couple of day's back and its absolutely wonderful.IMO this is one of the best 2.1 available in the market.dont know much about speakers so i am sure other's will help you out incase there is a better option.Cheers :)

Sangram - ur suggestion of an amp + speakers is good, but this combo will lack the effect produced by a sub that comes in with the MX. And yes the MX nowadays is not that reliable - when it comes to the build quality of the sub especially - i bought mine abt 2 yrs ago and is still in pristine condition, but the one purchased a month ago has the subwoofer case cracking open already - its ridiculious.

regards,

@rajaji: IMO the PSBs aint overtly bass shy, though they may not be able to produce the deeper thumps of the MX, however remember that the PSBs are hifi equipment and one of the best in the budget of the TS, dont compare them with the MX which are multimedia stuff.

A sub can always be added later, and the suggestion for Pulz/norge with the PSBs is the way to go.

True, but since the search is on for a 2.1, a sub will be on the search list. In case its not a priority the abv option is good. Of course the decision has to be made by the end user after listening to both the options.

@raja: Have you heard the combos I've recommended?

Just the fact a sub is there, does not mean the bass is deeper. I run a JBL 5.1 system myself with an 8" sub that does 30Hz, and it doesn't sound anywhere as good as my Dynaudio bookshelves. Admittedly the dynes cost 4 times the cost of the JBLs, but they reach deeper and sound far more natural than the sub-equipped JBLs. And my main towers, which go down to 30Hz too, provide all the impact I need, and sound far better than any dam sub.

If you are not aware, I have extensive experience with the MX. Look up the thread where I've modded the living daylights out of one - it's stickied up in Audio Zone. So I'm intimately aware of its sound and 'effect'. It's a nice sub for sure, but it's no match for a good pair of stereo speakers. I speak from experience of owning, modding and building many, many systems, and my nod is always toward two high quality speakers over three mediocre ones.

^ +1 Trillion!

People so easily assume that just because the 5021's have a sub the bass is phenomenal, which is absolutely rubbish.

@ OP - Go with Sangram's PSB combo or get the AE5's if you want still better low-end handling.

@jith: please define "small"

the PSBs asngram has mentioned should cost you about 7-8K, someone even got them at 5 iirc from a croma offer, the entry level pulz should be around 4-5K, for a reality check call the pulz ppl.

The Croma offer was on a pair of Polk Monitor 40, PSB is not available through Croma.

PSB LR1 is the smallest speaker in the range and was 9K/pr. Too small without a sub, though. The Alpha B1 are about 14K/pr and the amp is 5-6K. Both will work well in a small room.

AE5 is about 18K/pr. This may have a few issues if the room becomes too small.

[OT] @rajaji: experience and ego are to very distinct things, you are misinterpreting one for the other [/OT]

Please keep things to point and refrain from OT.

Sarangji: that’s exactly what I have said if you are able to read between the lines. One individual has asked for opinion on the purchase of a 2.1 speaker system where the .1 stands for the lfe (in case u don’t know) and the advise being given is to purchase an amp and speakers – where the speakers themselves are crossing the budget of the purchaser. The difference in the bass response of a system with an lfe, and one without, is phenomenal – even a kid will be able to confirm on that!!! So there is no need to bullshit on bookshelves being able to match subs.

Sangramji: all the best for ur modding exercises - after going thru ur post i think you have only managed to distort the output of the MX.

^^this newbie thinks he is smart.........

Have u ever heard any Bookshelves or any good speakers for that matter....

:flame: on for u ....for insulting a modder .....

Ahhh, flamebait

Raja, the subwoofer in PC speaker systems does make a phenomenol difference. This is because the satellites are simply not capable of any real bass output. When you come to proper bookshelves however, this is not the case. You will get enough bass to enjoy music (movies and games might still need a sub).

If you can read between the lines, the OP actually asked for a system within 15K for listening to music. Hence sangram's suggestion of bookshelves + amp. The mx5021 would not compare in any way here :)
