15 days out of warranty and my Desire HD's motherboard and PCB pack up

Hello ppl,

I have been using a HTC Desire HD since 5 Feb 2011 and its absolutely stock. Its also handled carefully but on 18 Feb suddenly it stopped detecting the SIM card. Initially I thought it was a network related issue but after checking my wife's mobile which had full network I began to worry.

Did a few shut downs and restarts but no avail. Then tried to insert another SIM into my device but no sugar.

Finally submitted the device to HTC service at SG Infotech at Borivali, Mumbai who asked me to leave the device for inspection. Today they called to inform that the phone's motherboard and PCB need to be replaced and it would cost a whopping 13K INR.

I request to take in my phone under warranty repair but they refused point blank, even tried calling the HTC helpline but even they read out the company line that the phone's out of warranty and they cannot do anything about it.

I am so disappointed, Please help me with this guys? Can I get my phone repaired outside for a lesser amount? And I was just about to buy a HTC device for my wife now I will think twice before recommending HTC to anyone.

Apologies for the rant.

Regards,

Hiren

You have two options,

either give it to some reputed workshop and try your luck .

Or you sell it for spares and buy new piece

Sorry to hear your trouble

I will try to get this phone repaired outside. Not sure how I can salvage parts from my phone.

In this regards Apple is leagues ahead of HTC.

A few years ago my iPod classic 80GB would not transfer songs over 16GB and it was atleast 2 month out of warranty. Apple service replaced my iPod, no questions asked. Wish HTC could take a leaf from this.

HTC only did what's in the contract. Your phone is out of warranty and that's it. You gotta cough the dough up and get it repaired or do w/e u feel via third party options. How does Apple vs HTC figures here..?? Apple played nice for you, but then you are not entitled to expect the same out from every other company.

And what u gonna tell ppl.. that Lads, be careful. HTC doesnt honors warranty once its over... ??

Are you really looking for help or looking for sympathizers ?

I'd like to rant about HTC's after-sale services in India. In Mumbai, they won't do repairs at the official service center and ask people to go to pune to get it done. Initially, they won't even pick up the phone! I visited the service center to find out the phone was kept off the hook. The guy seemed least interested in my problem and was looking for ways to get rid of me. My 'Desire' was giving me problems and was informed that the motherboard had to be replaced for a whooping 10k but that won't happen in Mumbai. I have planned to get rid of it and buy a non-htc device.

Yes, I agree HTC did whats in the contract and no I'm not looking for sympathisers. I just mentioned the difference in service of 2 companies.

When I buy a flagship device of a brand I'd expect the thing to work without any issues for atleast a couple of years. The part the bugs me is that HTC could have repaired my device as a goodwill gesture and retain a customer.

Of course I'm going to tell people to beware of HTC devices, no questions.

Probably u ll also like to mention the price difference as well then ?

Do go ahead about warning about htc's lack of assistance in areas like mumbai and all, but if you want to behave like a kid.. include your theory of no goodwill gesture by all means.

Your explanation is nothing but an extension of your rant. Its not like every other company than HTC is extending freebies to its customers and you didnt got your candy.

You seem to be a touchy one or perhaps HTC lap dog. And since you're an exception to the norm I'll chose to ignore you.

More HTC rants!

HTC Wildfire S : Service issue

HTC Service - Pathetic !!

I'd most definitely stay out of HTC and not recommend it to any of my friends or colleagues.

Thanks for this Gannu. And yes no more HTC for me.

All this while I was suggesting, anyone who asked, to get an HTC device but now I'll think twice before doing this.

HTC services or products might be bad. But expecting them to serve you on goodwill is pretty more ambitious and illogical. U can preach and stop ppl from buying HTC. no issues..

Honestly I have no qualms about their devices and the performance having seen some of them in person but with the kind of services they are offering us, I would rather be safe than sorry.

Your phone is out of warranty and needs major parts replacement, so either pay the charges or get a new phone, its well known that HTC doesnt have good service BUT in this case, its not the fault of HTC service centre, in the past you might have received a goodwill gesture from apple but you cant expect all companies including even apple in future to replace your product after its warranty period.

no point selling it for parts. only SIM card is not getting detected right? Use it as a PMP ala iPod Touch. and since you have already [confirmed] no warranty, go crazy with custom ROMs from xda.

Cool story bro.

Thanks Rakesh, I don't think HTC products are bad on the contrary I love them. I was/am not expecting them to entirely repair my phone under warranty but a partial wave off would have been welcomed. What I am suprised is the cost of repair. 13K is way too high.

True.

I agree, its not HTC service fault that my phone conked off and thats why I've not been rude with them at all, in person or on the phone. Guess I was expecting HTC to follow Apple's suit. I've spoken to quite a few people over the past few days and I've only heard good things about Apple service.

Na, I don't think I can do that. But yes trying custom ROM's from xda would surely be an option if that phone comes back alive that is. :)

As of now I've left my device with a local mobile technician, lets see if he can do something about it. He says its difficult to source the motherboard outside of HTC service centers but he's got some contacts there so might be able to help. Fingers crossed.
Cool story bro.

Thanks bro.
