I like to install 18 in computer office. In all coputer I install xp.
I like to do netwoking for same. I want to purchase network switch. Can u help for same.
What can i purhcase buy three 8 port swithch or
buy one 24 port switch or
buy one 16 port switch and one 8 prot.
 
If u dont plan to move the comps around , then definitely get a 24 ports switch. Less hassles coz if you get 2 switches then u can use only 22 ports coz 1 port in each will go to internetworking of the two networks. Also that single point can become a bottle neck if there is too much traffic between the two switches coz all traffic will have to go through those 2 ports only. Whereas in case of three switches u effectively will be able to use 20 ports, if u want to network all the comps in a single network.

Though in case of 2 switches ur wiring will be a bit neat than with a 24 port one. But i dont think wiring will be an issue.

Gettin a 24 port switch seems the best option.
 
if the systems can be compartmentalized like 8 in one department and 8 in another, then go for two or three switches. But if there is regular traffic between all systems, then go for the 24 port one.

We use the Dlink DES-1024 D switch at our office bought a year ago. The price now is 5k. Must be better options out now.
 
24 ports is a better option anyday over that 16 port and 8 port switch coz if the port at which 8 port switch is connected gets clogged by trnasfers then PC's connected to that 8 port switch will suffer from sluggish netwrk performance.
