Hi

For purposes of gaming and graphics(3ds max ,flash photoshop)
,which of the 2 is better:
Samsung 793MB
Samsung 713N

Forget the money part

But will I get better graphics , can I use resolutions of 800*600,640*480 and 1024*768 for my games comfortably and will I get ghosting?

Need help fast .
THanks

17" CRT is better, but if you get a sub 5ms response time then the LCD has an edge, cause viewing area in LCD's are generally higher then CRT monitors.

17" LCD the Viewsonic VX724 - 4ms response...RULES, Period.

It only has good speed & not good quality.

Viewsonic VP730b 17" LCD is the best all rounder.

It will have no ghosting.

You can use it at 800*600, 1024*768 & 1280*1024.

It is HDTV 720p Ready.

Don't know the price.

It will cost more than Rs. 15000.

if its for gaming, CRT with a high refresh rate hands down. Many LCD makers advertise 8ms or lower response times but that could be for grey to grey only which is useless. rather than taking the hassle of finding an LCD on which games run without any visual problems, i'd rather buy a good CRT which are cheaper, possibly saving me money to buy a bigger size too. not to mention games on CRTs are super smooth (especially with vsync enabled) as long as the refresh rates are high. personally i still haven't seen one LCD which has a clear advantage over regular CRTs in terms of colour reproduction or smoothness. i admit i haven't seen a lot but good CRTs have great value for the money you spend.

LCD's produce better image quality and are easy on the eyes.

CRT's, Cathode Ray Tubes fire a lot of radiation, even with high refresh rates, was on 800X600 at 85HZ on 15" LG, and used to go to bed with red eyes. but they do have those advantages said above.

this is simply how u should decide if u want crt or lcd. it depends on your usage.

games & movies = CRT
normal use & max photoshop etc = LCD

whatever u say about lcds. i have even seen 4ms lcd & found ghosting on it. & divx movies always look better on a crt than lcd.

Well MVA+Overdrive panels these days are as good as CRTs in terms of response and also color accuracy. The only vendors that actually use these panels are Dell, Apple and Viewsonic(only on the VPXXXb models). There's no ghosting, pixel perfect color and generally no dead pixels. Stormie if you come over on 25th for the meet, I'll show you a dell gaming LCD panel ;).

Though it isn't unplayable, people widely game on laptops too. And CRT's take up too much space. Generally LCD's over CRT's, but for those who want to specifically want good gaming/movie results, then its CRT.

A 17" CRT has a viewable area of only 16" while a 17" LCD has a viewable area of 17".

For gaming and cinema, the CRT wins hands down. Period. But for text based screens, the LCD is the winner here. Discounting ghosting, playing at a resolution other then the native resolution in most LCDs result in a small blurring. Can be a turn off for those hard core gamers..

Power consumption in the LCD is lower then then CRT too.

Getting a DVI interface on those LCDs coupled with a DVI supported graphics card is a big plus.

Like Anish, mentioned, the Viewsonic VX724 is the best 17" LCD out there with a response time of 4 ms. (Yup, its gray to gray) But costwise its pretty heavy on the wallet.

If not taking a 17" LCD, then i say get a 19" CRT. Best option for gaming as well as movies..

If serious 3d graphics rendering is in your mind, then definitely go for 19" crt monitors. lcd's would not match the color rendering of a crt. depending on your usuage you have to make up your mind.

lcd's Pros:
Takes up Little Space on Desktop
Light Weight
Energy Efficient
Causing Less Eye Fatigue

Cons:
Expensive
Blurry Images Outside Native Resolution
Motion Blur on Fast Moving Images
Washed Out Colors

crt's Pros:
Inexpensive
Multisync Capable
High Refresh Rates
Color Clarity and Depth

Cons:
Large Footprint on Desktop
Very Heavy
Use Large Amounts of Energy
Generate Excess Heat

ya chaos i know u get lcds that are as accurate as crts. but 1 must also keep the cost in mind. cause i myself will buy the lcd when i find a good 1 & that fits the budget.

also if u are talking about laptop lcd screens i think on those the dell & some other brands are really good.
