some really nice info there guys, sorry to hijack this thread,

but if one was to buy a decent lcd for gaming... in $250....19" (WS preferred)

which one could it be any opinions?....budget puushable to $300

I will go with samsung 997DF. Thank you gys for helping me out.

But you haven't yet answered one of my questions. I asked whether it can run a 800*600 at 100 Hz refresh rate. Now you have explained that it can do 800x600 at 146hz!! But can it do 800*600 at 100 Hz ??? The reason i ask this is because i am under the impression that ideal refresh rate for a computer is 75-100 Hz and 146 Hz refresh rate is not suitable and results in blurry text and videos. Am i wrong in this assumption ??? Sorry for being such a *oob but i really need the answer to this before i go out and buy the monitor. Plz help me out.

Once again thank you all for informing me about the best 19 inch monitor.

yes you are wrong in that assumption.

higher the refresh rate better the image quality.

sorry for the misunderstanding!!:P
i should have been clearer in my statements!!

Whatever resolution you use, refresh rate should be 75hz(minimum) or more!!:)

That is to get flicker free viewing!!
Lesser eye strain/fatigue!!:)

And with a 19" CRT, why do you want to stick to a low Resolution of 800x600!!:S

You will get better image/clarity with 1024x768 or 1280x1024 res!!:ohyeah:

And that is the main purpose of getting bigger monitors!!:ohyeah:
Coz smaller monitors cannot do high resolution at 75hz or more!!

Thats the reason graphics/animation guys used to get 19" or 21" CRT coz many work at 1600x1200 and only monitors bigger than 19" support that at 75hz or more!!

I assume you need more viewing area, so get the 19"!!
But if you are getting it only for 800x600 at 100hz, then there are some 17"CRTs that might do that!!
coz they do 1024x768 at 75-85hz easily!!
And 17"flat CRT will cost 6-6.5k only!!

The reason is mainly games and surfing the net. Some games don't do at high res setting with all the eye candy turned on. Even the latest grtaphics cards may not support upcoming games at high res.

Also higher the resolution , lower the text size and smaller the words appear.( plz correct me if i am wrong!) So don't wanna use a microscope to view them!

The reason i need a 19 inch monitor is because i need more viewing area for i will be using it to watch tv and movies. so the small screen area of my current 17 inch monitor bothers me.
Now is it true that if i use the 19 inch monitor at a resolution of 800*600 i will only be able to view( the movie or tv or game) in a part of the full screen (and wont cover the entire screen?)??? I hope you understood my question! plz help me out here.

Yea higher the res the smaller it looks. But on a 17" at the same res it will look smaller than a 19". Basically It wont look as small on a larger monitor obv. Games will work at whatever resolution u set them to, unless ur running in windowed mode. but tv, afaik is only at a res of 640 X 480 so the viewable area will be smaller.

DX10 games will in all probability struggle on an old card. This card belongs to the 6 series. The mid range 7 series cards are already struggling with newer DX9.0 games. eg: Elder Scrolls Oblivion IV. Also, the day the 8 series will be announced, the 6 series value will go down by half. It does not matter that it will take at least 2-3 months for the 8 series to reach India but people will stop buying the 6 series and prefer to wait.

Anand, 9K seems quite a bit steep though I know you might have paid quite a bit to initially purchase the card. But the fact is that I can get a brand new 7600GT for 11K and 7600GS for 7.3K in Bangalore with a 3 yr local warranty.

Are you coming down to Bangalore this weekend? Would like to see your system with Vista in action. Also, can you let me know why your selling your system?
