Mine is a samsung 19" lcd monitor 933NW at 1440 x 900 resolutions,so do i need to go for a 512mb or a 1gb card(ATI Radeon 4670)?

I guess the difference would be marginal.
If you look at the charts for FEAR here, they seem to be evenly poised.
So you might as well go with one which gives you better aftersales.

Mate,

1GB for an res of 1440X900 and that too on a 4670 ! to put it in simple words,

Putting your valuable money in to Drain, Cards benefit from Higher amount of memory only at larger reslutions like 1920 X 1080 or above up, practically no body games on a 4670 at such high reslutions, so up to 1680X1050 512 Mb is suffcient.

True. The extra 512 MB is wasted on the 4670. There are too many bottlenecks for extra VRAM to offer any benefit. There's just one game that the 1 GB version will offer any benefits in - GTA IV. And that's more because its an unoptimized piece of VRAM hogging crap.

If you have a slightly better budget I'd suggest the 4850. Just cost a couple thousands more.

go with 512mb version as it has higher memory clocks than 1gb version and at a resolution below fullhd, 1gb doesn't makes sense

so 512mb one is you best bet :)

@Sai@tech

insane price...3.9k

are you sure.

btw @ OP

If you want slightly better card, 9800GT for 5.5k too is good vfm card and lot faster than a 4670. And 512 MB is more than enough. Im playing all games on 1920*1080p high~max on my 512MB 4870. And as per reviews too, only above full HD res, 1G is useful.

HD4670 is not such a powerful card. So much VRAM is a total waste on it. Moreover it has only 128bit bandwidth (Dont remember, but some TE guru once threw light on the balance between VRAM vs. Bandwidth)

Anyways, whats the point of spending Rs. 4.5k on a HD4670 low-mid end Gaming when 9800GT will bring you Hi-end gaming on your 19" monitor at Rs. 5.4k. Hence in my opinion, 9800GT is the Best VFM card for your config.

In case you want enthusiastic level of image quality and maybe shift to 22" monitor soon, only then you should opt for power hog HD4850 @ rs. 6.6k

ya, 9800GT is extremely good for resolutions upto 1440*900. But starts failing to give consistent performance on 1680 and above resolutions. And higher card like 4850/gts 250 is only worth for resolutions like 1680 and above.

Check yourself the diff b/w 512 and 1Gb for a powerful GPU like 4870

Dude i have a palit 9600 Super - i.e. 9600GSO 512 MB 128-bit card and i play every game maxed out at 1440x900( mostly with 2xAA) . Crysis on medium high .

I think you need a 9600GT at the max for such a resolution and 512MB is enough. 1GB is for full-HD resolutions.
