1GB Ram- Xp - 7 or 8 ?

I have a 4 year old Dell Vostro Laptop with 1gb ram, Intel dual core processor T5470, graphics card nvdia 8400m gs. I was wondering whats the best OS to install? Perhaps lite versions of the above OS?

I've used win7 for most of the time and now windows 8 for the last year or more since dev build. But i need to use photoshop/illustrator, chrome, utorrent together, and its slowing down in a huge way. What do you guys recommend?

Im shifting to a new laptop in 8 months and once the ultra book scene is more clear. And I really dont want to open it up for even ram upgrade. The hinges are on their last breath.

I've only used xp on this for a total of 2 days when i bought it and the engineer insisted on it. So dont know how it'l perform.

Ps- If you have specific build off the internet or using vlite or something, please do let me know. Not a noob, just wanted a second opinion.
 
You will definitely req. a ram upgrade even if you try to use home basic win7 with photoshop etc. Win 8 is far ahead. Else for the time be satisfied with xp3
 
I am already using it. Its just that windows itself is taking too much ram. I was thinking of tweaking the setup for a barebone install or something.
 
With 1 GB RAM, and with 8 months to use before buying a laptop, Windows XP seems to be the best option.

Although, you can give Win 7 a try. Just run the Windows 7 Upgrade Assistant, and it will tell you if the laptop is ready for Windows 7 or not. Apart from RAM, it will tell about other hardware/software compatibility too. If all other factors are OK, apart from the RAM, you can give Windows 7 a try. It runs light. You can try it for a few days, and see if it runs light. If not, you can go back to XP.
 
Windows XP is the only thing with 1GB RAM.
With 4 GB you can go for windows 7 or 8.
anything less than that your PC gonna Choke.
 
Basic windows 7 (no aero) would run on your machine .
I used to run win 7 on my laptop with similar config but it was a little laggy so i upped the ram to 2gb but i run aero.
 
The OP is looking for OS + Photoshop combo to run on his 1GB RAM. And he clearly stated that his Win 7 (probably the current setup) is using much of his RAM at the moment. So suggesting him to go for Win7 doesnt make much of a sense and I believe he should downgrade the OS to XP for the time being and use it as he please.
