Have you checked current prices? Prices of NVMe SSDs are dropping as they gain widespread use.
Examples of 1TB drives at MD Computers:
Crucial P3 - 4.1k
WD SN570 - 4.25k
There are some slightly cheaper models but they are much slower and these two offer very good performance to price ratios.
