I bought my new rig and I have a last query about the hard drive which I need to go for.. Some help here guys !

-- Athlon II X4 630, Asus M4A785TD-V EVO, Corsair VX 450, Corsair XMS3 2GB*2 RAM, CM 310, LG DVD drive --

I have bought WD Caviar Green 1TB 64MB for 4500 Rs with the rig and since I have not gone through any reviews of it, I just wanted to cross check if it is the right choice. I have not used it yet and I can return it to go for the below choices..

Other options which I could go for..
Seagate Barracude 7200.12 1TB 32MB - 4250 Rs
WD Caviar Blue 500GB 16MB X 2 - 2250 Rs X 2 ( This option makes sense cos if in case one of them crash I would lose only half the data, right ? )

Will there be any performance increase in 500GBx2 than 1TBx1 setup ??

Pls let me know which option should I go for..

Yours is not a gaming rig right? Just keep your WD green. Good reliable HDD for data dump/ normal usage.

The Seagate Barracude 7200.12 1TB 32MB is a better performer than the WD Green but has a reduced warranty of only 3 years :(

^... +1 but only in read function 7200.12 is better.. otherwise for write & file transfer it performs lower than WD Green...

RAID in general does provide more performance but its not the safest (unless mirror) on onboard RAID solutions.. A discreet RAID card is recommended for the benefit but they cost a bomb...

that 64MB cache can play a big part in read/write speed. Keep it. no need to change if you already got one.

RAID, though gives a kick of performance boost has to be handled carefully.
