Guys i need some help here. I am having lot of problems with my local network setup. let me tell u the complete story first.

I am using BSNL Dataone connection and it connects via the ethernet(E1) I have set it to the IP address as 192.168.1.10 and the DNS server as the modem ip address which is 192.168.1.1 on my ground floor computer (C1)
I am also have another network connection via the ethernet (E2) which is used to connect my computer upstairs. (C2)
I am using Windows xp pro Sp2.
The problem is that I have set the connection for E2 to obtain the ip address automatically and it does not optain the ip address, also i have configured it as part of a local network MSHOME(using the network wizard in xp). all this on C1
The C2 computer is having a ethernet (E3) which is configured to automatic IP address allocation and i have set it as the computer is part of a network with intrnet connection in other computer(using the windows networking wizard).

Now here are the problems:
I am able to browse net from C1 and C1 and C2 are getting connected on the local LAN (i have via E2 and E3) but on C1 it shows E2 as limited connectivity or no connectivity, but it shows the shared files in the my network places. PS right now C2 cannot access the net

Now if i want to enable internet to be available in C2 then i again go the wizard and it makes changes to E2 connection and sets the ip address to 192.168.0.1 which is used for ICS in xp i think. Now i can browse the net from C2 but the LAN (C1 to C2) is gone and no longer the shared drives are available.

I want both (LAN and NET) to be available on the computers C1 and C2. Right now its like either LAN for C1 and C2 or net only for C2. Both lan and net are not available on C2.
Kindly help me guys!! :huh:

The ICS on win xp is hardcoded to assign an IP of 192.168.0.1 to the the eth card for sharing, i.e. E2 in ur case

Try this;

- Assign IP of 192.168.0.1 to E2

- Assign IP of say 192.168.0.2 to E3

- Enable ICS on E1 and allow E2 to access the net

- Set 192.168.0.1 as the gateway on E3

- Set 192.168.1.1 (or whatever ur DNS is ) as the DNS on E3

- ENable File sharing on C1 and C2

Try and post back...

@superczar

I am able browse the lan but still no net connectivity from C2

EDIT: I changed the gateway and DNS both to 192.168.0.1 and now the net is working in C2
I am really confused what happened earlier :huh:
