.....And the Apple Store is down!

Apple on Tuesday will finally get around to updating its MacBook Pro line of professional notebooks, which will include Intel's new Core processors ranging from 2.4GHz to 2.66GHz and include a variety of screen options, AppleInsider has been told.

According one person familiar with the matter, each model will ship with 4GB of RAM, including 2.4GHz and 2.66GHz 13-inch models, 2.4GHz, 2.55GHz and 2.66GHz 15-inch models, and a 2.53GHz 17-inch model.

Additionally, the new line may include three different types of screens options: Glossy, High Resolution Glossy, and High Resolution Glossy with Anti-Glare. A second person familiar with the mattered adds that at least some models will support 512GB of Solid State Drive (Flash) storage.

A list of part numbers and specs for the new models, as can be seen in certain inventory management systems, are as follows:

The Apple Store is currently down, so I expect these to show up in the next couple of hours.

Update:Though of little material value, here are the logic board part numbers :

661 - 5566 for 2.4
661 - 5479 for 2.53
661 - 5480 for 2.66

and the display part numbers. In both cases, these pertain to the 15-inch models.

661 - 5483 glossy
661 - 5477 hi res glossy
661 - 5478 hi res glossy with anti glare

...And they're up - Welcome to the Apple Store - Apple Store (U.S.) !!!!!

No Core i3/i5 on the 13" pros. :'(

Darn it , no i3 / i5 on 13" :( .

Guess I ll just have to buy a new battery and an SSD for my old macbook 13" .

There is a lot of debate on WHY they went for C2D procs on 13"

They've increased 20% battery life for giving up on 10% of processing power with the i5.

Many now claim that Apple would have surely tried and testing with the old procs and have gone ahead with the best config in mind. I'm sure 13" will sell like hotcakes.

It is important to understand how i3/i5 works and how much extra processing power one would get out of the config. If C2D can perform equally well and also give extra battery with good igfx, why not pick a 13" one which is also affordable?

$ 1799 is damn too expensive :dx: for the 15" :o

EDIT:

Jobs has apparently reply to the one of the users :P

We chose killer graphics plus 10 hour battery life over a very small CPU speed increase. Users will see far more performance boost from the speedy graphics.

Steve Jobs on 13-Inch MacBook Pro's Use of Intel Core 2 Duo Processors - Mac Forums

Hey...

I was not happy when I saw the upgrade.. but after I went thru the forum, it looked different.

1) First decide what you really want to do with your laptop.

2) How long you'd need that laptop to last for? 2 years? 4 years? 6 ?

3) Are you going to play games? or you need it for casual surfing? movies? video editing etc?

I need a programming lappy for 4-5 years with decent speed. I'm still using my Sony vaio got in Dec 2004 for my programming and browsing purposes. (768MB ram :ashamed:)

The i5/i7 procs are really priced high and many say... it is too damn expensive for the market. Most of them don't even need all that processing power unless they run a server/do serious heavy duty work :P

So the base 13" would be okay for 4-5 years for casual browsing, movies, music... and maybe some level of gaming. I'm planning to get the 13" one....... today :secret:, I feel in love with the unibody :P

There is another thread where a college going kid wants to get a lappy for 5 years... , people have suggested the 13" one. C2D may be outdated tech, but it sure is good enough for most of us.

I'm very sure, the hardcore... "I want the fastest and latest techno" fans wouldn't agree. But it's for each one of us to decide.

Make a learned decision. Sony vaio prices are also insane... but the reason I'm moving to mac is... to try something different. PC user for 13 years now. And I heard that since APPLE has an eye on the entire manufacturing process, their product is better than others.. and don't forget the awesome customer service.

PS: I'm not an Apple fanboi :P

If the 13" had a 330M GPU, I'd have got it by now. The problem is the combination of the close-to-extinct CPU and not-so-good GPU.

hmm. this is insane. Isn't 330M GPU DX10.1? Why can't Apple go for HD5xxx ATI cards when they are working so well and produce much less heat.
