2012 is a decent apocalyptic movie. Not much time is wasted and you get straight to the point. Special effects are good and the dimmed lighting hides glitches if any. The characterization and screenplay has a B grade look, but the visual effects are grade A.

Definitely worth a watch IMO.

PS:

The movie is not imax compatible. So save your money and dont book this in IMAX. I saw this in IMAX and its a waste to spend the extra bucks. But the movie itself is worth a watch.

Hehe Blade gave a opposite viewpoint, said the movie was very horrible and not to waste money. I guess I will give a skip, had a bad experience with Transformers 1 & 2 when i thought plain action will make up for a lack of everything....

I didnt like Transformers 2 but liked this one. Do you like apocalyptic movies in general? If yes, then you will like this.

Disclaminer: I am a big fan of apocalyptic movies and the premise by itself sets up the mood for me.

when we have a separate movie thread then wats the need for creating a new thread for a single movie :P

i dont get it

I myself dont check the "Last Movie seen" thread. I felt bit cheated watching this on imax due to incompatibility. So thought there would be scores of people like me who would want to know that this movie is not imax compatible.

Dont strain yourself. I dont expect you to get it :P

Bloody Fame theatres changed the screen while we managed to book the ticetks for 2012 - and expected us to watch Ajab Prem..

There's just one English show for the entire Sunday and 3 Hindi shows, duh! :|

Would want to watch this one - Transformers 2 was a bit hyped up IMO.

Incompatible for Imax ??? I don't think you expected the entire movie to be in Imax right ??

Must be like Dark Knight where the the aerial shots and that Chase were only in Imax.

I dont think this movie or even a part of it was shot with IMAX cameras. I think it is being shown on IMAX screens just to make extra moolah. I feel theaters should start mentioning if a movie being shown in an IMAX cinema is actually shot in the IMAX format or not coz the video quality does get affected when the image is stretched to fit a bigger screen. Ive had a couple of unsatisfactory experiences with movies shown at IMAX Hyderabad that were not actually in the IMAX format.

Saw the movie and was a bit disappointed. Perhaps I expected a bit too much from it. This movie is best described as a B-Grade flick with A-Grade special effects.

Compared to 'Day after Tomorrow', Day After Tomorrow is still the better movie.

Have to agree with this. Day After Tomorrow looked believable, however this movie dragged towards the end. The acting was horrendous and over-dramatised. Visual effects were good at some point and some clearly gave way to over done CGI. Some parts of the had that digital cheap look to it and felt like it was processed properly. And for those curious, the film was shot on Panavision Genesis.

Totally agree with Vij.... the screenplay and even footage except special effects (specially towards the end) are absolutely B-grade or made-for-TV movie like.... but the special effects are top notch and worth watching on big screen. I guess the major budget of movie was spent on special effects and there wasn't much left for doing good post production on rest of the footage. :P

There is not much of plot or story involved, but the movie is decent watch.

When you watched the movie in IMAX theater, did the movie (parts of) cover the entire Imax dome screen or was just a wide screen version forced on the dome screen ?

In Dark Knight, the initial 10 minutes, few shots in between and that chase, those parts covered the entire dome screen so you know it is in IMAX and rest all was wide screen forced on that dome screen.

They spent on a lot of things except Special Effects like:

  • Training the Indians to speak Hindi.
  • Getting an old Jalopy to use for a Taxi in India.
  • Getting rights for using the scene from the Forbidden Kingdom (saved a bit by modifying the BMW scene from Die Hard 4).
  • Spending a lot to get a replica of Titanic (or Some other ship) for the kid to play in rain water instead of a paper boat.
  • Killing the President in style by tossing an Aircraft Carrier on him.
  • Flashing lights at the end when the characters were trapped in water that made me think that the characters are moving fast but the dialogues are lagging
  • Saving exotic cars at the start instead of people to destroy them later.
  • Going camping in a limo.

^ These are just a few of them. Guys Contribute.
