had a small power cut but I wasnt accessing anything from my Hitachi 250GB hard drive at that time . a couple of restarts later , got this scandisk prompting to scan my 3rd partition . after three scans or so , the sector scan began I guess .. 3-4 sectors are unreadable , one got recovered .

right now , I'm confused if I should RMA it now as the computer is in good health . in the 3rd partition its full of movies and video clips . I guess I have to discontinue the use of the 3rd partition which is really not a big problem . used Everest and my SMART info tells me everything is fine . ran scandisk in the same partition and when it comes to phase 4 , everything seems endless hope you get me ??

I'd recommend you backup all ur stuff on a backup hdd or some dvd's , and rma it asap, why wait for things to get worse.

arre xfactor thats not the point :( . there are only three to four bad sectors in my 3rd partition . Can it spread ? I don't think so , please share with me your knowledge :)
 
Sorry to hear this... don't wait any longer, you can get the APC 500va for like 2k now. If you were in Bangalore I could have given you mine, since it's just lying around :P

And xfactor said, backup your data and get a replacement... don't count on this drive for reliability.
 
yes - these are 99.9% logical bad sectors marked by scandisk as unreadable so it blacklists the sectors completely for future. U sh'd back ur stuff up, do a FULL Format(not quick). if no gain...delete partitions bring it to factory state & then repartition/format it.

If diskmanagement literally hangs at some percentage & can't go beyond while partition formatting - definately send it for RMA.

don't try Low level formatting unless u know what ur doing, u may loose warranty.
