Hi All, I am using Airtel broadband plan i.e. 10GB @1mbps 256kbps there after @Rs 1025 tax incl for the past 1 year. Airtel has very good service here in Kolkata. I want a plan which is cheaper say 256kbps unlimited @ less than 1K whoever may be the service provider but it should provide good service in Kolkata. Please kindly help. Regards, Raheel Shadab.

Alliance broadband is expensive when u gonna take a new connection.
I asked a nearest CableWalla and he told Rs.1.5K+(399+TAX@12.36) for 300 kbps UL plan.
I had Alliance before from other cable Guy but that fcking guy did not fix my line.
My CAT5 cable was cut at road due to storm and cablewalla asked me to pay 1K to fix that.:(
Called Alliance they told its none of their concern, contact ur cable cable walla.

Reliance, bsnl, alliance, wishnet and meghbela are all under 1k. Google is your best friend.

Reliance is a good option if you do want to go for cable wala internet.
Else look for Tikona. Recently my friend in Howrah replaced his reliance with this Tikona connection, which is much cheaper compared any other BB.
Tikona Secured Wireless Broadband : Secured Wireless Home Broadband Tariff Plans-All Home Solutions

Other cable bbs are - Alliance, Ortel etc.

But only problem with these cable BBs is their upload speed to very low.
I have Ortel's 1mbps UL line, my download speed varies from 110-130kbps. But upload ranges in 10-25kbps.
My friend also said, in his 4mbps UL Tikona line, upload speed is not more than 40kbps.
(talking about upload in torrents. while its almost the same in speedtest)

ok. Try the options mentioned by others or look for the local cable internet from the cablewala. However, everyone will have an installation charge in the region of 1500/- including / excluding your first month subscription fee. And most of them will have static IP to offer.

dude Alliance isnt that bad
tot
al cost of setup for new conn. 1500installation+500activation plus price of pack per month

i'm on the 1050 rs p
ack unlimited....a scrnsht of current speed below

loc
ation: kolkata---elgin road[really close to beckbagan]

problems with alliance: high charge for new connection , cabewalla shuts down server during heavy thunderstorms , internet cable often gets torn due to bad weather which means no internet for 2 days

and im on the high peering pack me being a extensive torrent user....check out their peering pack

Alliance is totally UL no hidden FUP.
Cable net totally depend Cabewalla.
So,Alliance or other cable ISP not gonna be bad if ur Cabewalla is good.
My case is very unfortunate cos my Cabewalla is not a good guy and wanted 1K to fix wire.

Am on Alliance as well for past 3 years and service has improved a lot and most of it due to the fact that my cablewala is good

BTW, is the 'Peering' really needed ?
I mean what's the use of Peering ?
I saw hardly any local peer connected.
And even any local peer inside Alliance network gonna be very very rare.
And if there be one it will not be useful.
Cos no Indian peer gonna upload at 5mbps. :P

Well its like you download a torrent using public trackers that gets cached on the local NAS which is reportedly of 30TB . Now the next person who downloads the same thing gets peering speed. And in the current speed this peer speed co relates to your LAN speed. According to the plan am to get 10mbps but I get 15mbps+ atleast now so am happy :) . This peering thing is good as you save a lot of time , like me downloaded a 27gb file in just under 3.5 hrs :) .

I think all torrents in Torbox.net are locally peered.

Is there any way to look into Alliance NAS ?
How can anyone know what torrent is stored into their NAS ?
Cos this info gonna very useful for any Alliance user who use peering.

@mitraark
U from Kolkata ?
Torbox.net ?
That could be very very useful info for any Alliance user.
Thanks!

I believed the Allaince peering system is more like a local re routing process where torrents gets transferred via the LAN and not through the whole Internet hoops , thus transferring speeds are as much as the local network permits.

BTW,Alliance still using that spyware called 24online client for logging or they switched to web based logging now ?

Suppose u gonna download a torrent from public tracker like TPB or from private tracker like IPT.
How can u confirm if its on their NAS or not ?

yes torbox.net shows if its peered or not .. but its better to download it and put it to download and check the peer tab to be sure, and they have moved to a HTTP login page [which need not be open while surfing].This works on public trackers and few desi private trackers like DT and exdesi .
