As some of you know I was about to purchase a 20" or 22" lcd monitor but my mom wants me to purchase a TV instead(as old 21" tv from 1990s in my room is almost dead). Here in Gwalior yearly "gwalior mela" is going on and Mom went there and liked samsung 26" lcd tv for 29000 bucks. Sony bravia is also there but for something like 34500 bucks. Sony is ofcourse better but it lacks pip feature.

I was about to invest something like 13000+ bucks in a 22" lcd monitor (it had better resolution i.e. 1680 X 1050), 3000 bucks for a tv tuner card and another 1000 bucks for speakers. Now with this lcd tv I will be restricted to 1366 x 768 i.e. only 720p but a bigger display ofcoure. Buying a tv/monitor that does 1080p is outta question here.

So the key question is "will it be ok to sit at a distance of 2 ft and use this tv as regular pc monitor? " Not sure about DVI port on samsung so how much a dvi to hdmi adapter costs? I got 8600gt and abit ip35e board if it helps.

:) The dell 24 inch TN panel can also be a good option...Will be better then a TV probably for computer usage(gaming certainly, browsing possibly :) )
Also you get full HD(1080p)...Look at the go's in this forum

What will be a better option for me for primarily as TV and secondly as Monitor,

1) Buying a LCD TV 20"

2)Buying a Dell 22" and a good TV Tuner card

This will be primarily for TV viewing. My budget is a bit tight so whats advisable ?

Get a dell 24" TN panel costing around 20k, then add a TV tuner card, 2inches is not really a big deal if u are gaming, this is a cheaper solution than the 26" TV and a better one.

Get the Philips 26TA2800. I think it is around 28 grand and has an awesome S-IPS panel. Supports 720p/1080i/1080p though the latter is downscaled. The sharpness and color is amazing. Its neither the blurry mess like the samsungs nor is it oversharpened and oversaturated like the bravias.
