buy the T.sonic 620/640. They are in the 2.5 - 3K range and sound awesome. Buy a good pair of earphones like EP 630 and you won't be disappointed.

Or if you want really good sound quality and you don't listen to FM much, get the ipod shuffle.

I used to hate the shuffle since it had no screen and no FM. But after listening to it, I realized it excelled at what is was built to do - play music. Even with the default earphones I found the sound quality to be very good indeed.

SanDisk Sansa Clip 2Gb , got mine for 2k with proper bill and warranty from Rashi. Sounds really good paired with the Creative Ep-630.

Sansa c240, comes with 1 GB memory but supports microSd cards and supports Rockbox as well.

I got it with bill and warranty for 2.5k.
