Hey guys, I am in a big jam. I have a 2TB Seagate HDD which has failed partially. I only kept it for dumping data, hence only had 2 partitions among which I kept a 20GB partition to install OS for emergency purposes only. Now the main partition which is about 1.7-1.8TB in size is not accessible :scared14:........The data is still intact but I m unable to access it.......so need to Make a mirror image of the drive with a good Data Recovery Software. But I never had to recover so much important data before so I am a bit nervous. Also there is a problem, I don't have a 2TB Backup HDD to store the Drive Image. I only have a 1TB HDD. Is there a Recovery Software which can make the mirror image successfully and then compress the image to it in a 1TB HDD(after backup I'll Format th 2TB Drv & Restore the image to its full size) or do I really have to buy another 2TB HDD now?? I have selected 2 good softwares for this, viz; R-Studio Windows & Steller Phoenix. Really need the help of experts here as I am not sure which way to go for such huge load of recovery data. Please let me know what you think asap.

to recover 1.7TB data you will need a new 2TB drive. Even for making a mirror image, you will need that much space. better to get a new 2tb drive if you value your data so much that you cannot afford to loose it.
i'd recommend not formatting any drives until you have managed to recover almost all data to new disks.
