Hi

We are installing a CCTV System with 16 analog 700 TVL cameras

The feeds are recorded in a DVR and then fed to a PC from where the output will be taken for display

The Security room is a 8' X 8' room

What should be the ideal size of the TV for seeing the display ?
The supervisor will see the thumbnail of all 16 channels usually and will blow up a picture as and when required

We were thinking of going for a 32" LED TV.
Is this decision correct considering the small size of the room and 24 x 7 supervision (In 2 shifts ) ?

Thanks for advising

Can you take a demo of the system you would be deploying? That would give an idea about the clarity of the 16 thumbnails on the screen.

What would be the viewing distance? For ex. for HD movies, 8' = 40" TV, for TV see this. While, obviously you would not need an "immersive experience"; what is the level of detail that you expect to be monitored??

Why do you want a led TV? Will you get audio also through cctv feed? I think normal led monitor would be more than enough. I may be wrong though.

The viewing distance would be about 3'
We were going for a bigger size TV so that the thumbnails are big enough to make out some details in each of them

The demo is possible only when the full system is up and running.
We would have to give one of the residents TV on loan to see the real demo

If possible, get one camera first, hook it one of the residents' TV and check out the picture. That would give you a better idea.

32" should do fine. I assume it is for general monitoring of movement. Get a HD-ready TV (720p) not full-HD. The 720p one would not only be be cheaper, but also display the SD feed of the cameras in a much better fashion.

32" Full HD LED should be fine (you would get 8 x 4 screens)

Would this be the only monitor which will display the PC output (of all the Cameras)..... assuming your PC screen resolution is set at 1920 x 1080.

The 720p screen resolution will be more grainy and less sharp + it would be a LCD panel (LED's panels are rare in 720p)

I did not understand 8x4 screens ?
we have only 16 thumbnails

Yes this would be the only display for all the 16 cameras
Moreover the cameras are not full HD. Its only 700 TVL which is roughly 720p

Oops my mistake (I thought you had a feed of 32 cams).

So what is the layout for 16 thumbnails ( 4 x 4 ) with blank spaces ?

Do your cam images have an aspect ratio option ? (ie. chose 4:3 or 16:3).

I think the best option would be to let the cabling and installation be complete.
Then we will take the display on a residents TV and see what size suits best.
This will delay the completion by a day only as the TVs can be delivered the same day after we decide

Thanks for helping

I think, 700tvl is not even close to 720p. Its near to pal DVD size or even less. What the system actually records would be lesser than 700lines I think due to codec used for copying the feed. 700tvl is probably cam resolution.

That is precisely the reason why I suggested that HD-ready would be more than sufficient. Other than psychological reasons it is waste of money to be FullHD TV for this purpose.

Problem in testing with a resident's TV (I'll definitely bet on this!) is that you would have difficulty in getting a 720p TV! But, that would be the way to go.

We are more concerned about the layout of the thumbnails on the screen and the ease of seeing them.
So whether the demo is on a full HD tv or HD ready, I dont think it will make a difference in the layout.

Am I correct ?

If you have one of those external TV tuners for pc which show thumbnails of channels in 4x4 layout, you will get a fair idea I guess. Clarity of pictures will largely depend on the Dvr unit. Don't blame the tv.

There won't be difference in layout unless its programmed into the unit to fill horizontal space first. The sizes of each thumbnail will differ marginally.
