Title is self explanatory.
Please tell the grey market price of sony w. It is retailing for about 45k (philips for 35k). If the difference is not much in prices, will buy on emi.
Main use will be blue ray playback. Please help asap.

Mate if u r looking for 32" then check prices again as sony dropped its price of 32" w series model to44900, i enquired 5-6 days back at sony world

If you want to pay a premium for Sony, go ahead and buy it. But if you want PQ that is almost as good as Sony but with a better price and additional features, go for Philips

+1 To that. However the SD viewing on the W series is pretty decent as compared to other models in the same price bracket. The philips is mediocre for SD scaling.

However looking at your requirement (mostly BD) then guess Philips should serve the purpose pretty well.

well if u can afford it then yes u can go for the W series has better contrast, backlight control,100hz.
the philips applies a bit of undefeatable sharpening by default.

Have not seen the Philips, so no comments. But did extensive research on SONY, SAMSUNG & LG. Finally settled for a SAMSUNG LCD. But, between the choices you mentioned, can surely say, you won't go wrong with a SONY W series.

If you like to go with company who didnt have their own LCD panel and use to buy from Samsung and later on moved to Sharp, a company who was not able to control the pink tint in 10 bit panle and went back to 8 bit panel buy sony or close your eyes and buy Philips.

well for the last time they use it under licence, the lcd panels still uses sonys own color filter, backlight and the external coatings, not to mention the different image processing.
sony is yet to use sharp panels in 09 models, only in the high end 2010 3d tvs are sony using the sharp panels.
samsung and sharp panels are just a part of sony diet, they still use panels from AUO in many models.
its not only sony who uses panels from various vendors samsung for eg uses panels from AUO and CMO.
philips uses panels from LG,sharp and AUO.
panasonic uses panels from LG and IPS alpha division.
regarding sonys move to use 10 bit instead of 8 bit is due to cost cutting.
the red tint is because of the use of WCG-CCFL backlight, the ones used in the 08 W400 series, the W450 didn't have any kind of tint which also used the 10bit panel and WCG-CCFL.

coming to topic the the 5609 is no doubt a good tv,for its price of 34k and under i can safely say its the best 32" tv.but when comparing a W series or a samsung series 6 LED,the philips looses out in contrast and motion peformance, like i said before it also applies a bit of artifical sharpening which cannot be defeated even with settings set to the minimum.
