Since there are so many options in the market, I really don't know which are the good ones right now.

Looking for a fast internal SATA HDD for a gaming pc like the AAKS series from WD. I am still using a WD320 AAKS which I bought around 2 years back and I am pretty satisfied with it. Not looking at Raptors / Barracuda XT.

So what do the gurus suggest? I was looking at these,

WD Caviar Black 500 GB SATA Hard Drives ( WD5001AALS )

Seagate 7200.12 - Model ST3500410AS SATA 3Gb/s 500 GB (Rahul has this for 2450/- I think)

^^Ya but I still haven't managed to fill even half of my 320GB. Lol. And I was pretty satisfied with a 80GB HDD earlier :P

Just want a fast drive.

Get the Seagate 500GB 7200.12 ....it has the best cost per GB ...and 5 years warranty......i got one for myself for 2450 around 2 weeks ago locally and it's lighter and thinner than my previous 320GB ........pretty fast drive......no problems encountered......
If you want, i can get one for you since the shop is nearby and i'm sitting lazy this christmas.........

^^Thanks guys. I am considering the WD BLUE 640 AAKS or 320 AAKS and the Seagate 500GB 7200.12 now. Will check for availability and pricing in the local market here and post back.

Anybody has an approximate idea of the prices of the 320/640 WD BLUE AAKS?

@jeffrain123

I appreciate you offering to help me but I will never ever get a HDD shipped to me as I am paranoid about it being handled by the courier service people. This is the only reason why I am going to buy it locally rather than ordering it from the many dealers that we have on TE.

The WD 320 AAKS should be 2.2-2.3k and the the 640 around 3k. Better go for the Seagate 500GB 7200.12 series. Best bang for buck and good performance too.(5 yrs warranty)

You already have a 320AAKS right ? Why do you want 1 more ?

You will not feel any difference in speed if your gonna upgrade to just a 7200.12 series HDD.

I am building another system so I need another HDD. And I said I wanted something similar or better in performance to the AAKS series as I really liked its performance in my existing system.

Ordered a Seagata 500GB 7200.12 for 2500/- now. WD was not available here.

Also prices have gone up for Seagate as according to my dealer, mostly from January 2010 Seagate will also be offering only 3 years warranty and not 5 years. So the old stock with 5 year warranty has become costlier.
