My friend's 32GB Transcend pendrive was working fine till one day last month. I copied some files to it and after that it refused to open anywhere. It had some 25GB of data at that time. Before that, it never gave any errors or problems whatsoever.

What we have tried:

  • Data recovery softwares like Stellar Pheonix and Acronis Disk Doctor
  • Formatting methods of all kinds including GParted, Guru3D Low Level Format Tool

The result is the same always. The pendrive is detected most ports in a few desktops and laptops. It shows in My Computer as Removable Disk (drive letter:). Right click and properties shows Unknown device, which is of 0bytes free and used space.

Format does not work. Windows format option does not work either. GParted and LLF tools don't detect the pendrive at all, while all other HDD's/PD's are detected.

The data recovery softwares are hanging.

So the current status is that it refuses to open anywhere at all. I don't know how it happened and would like some advice regarding this situation. The pendrive was bought about a year and a half ago from abroad and my friend lost its cap. Is there any chance of RMA?

That would be my last option, yes.

Try a low level format ? HDDGURU: HDD Low Level Format ToolIf its original , then get a replacement.
Yes, I have tried it, as mentioned in the first post, but the drive is not detected by the tool, which detects other HDD's and PD's well enough.

Will try and report latest by tomorrow.

This happened with my 16GB Transcend too.

Best suggestion is

If warranty available then get the replacement.

I used a tool from AlcorMicro corp to get my 16GB back to life but the write speeds are pathetic (7MB/s) which previously was 22MB/s

If you want that tool then I will upload it to Rapidshare/Depositfiles.

But NONE OF THE DATA CAN BE RECOVERED with that tool.
