In the age of digi-cams... many have forgotten theactual 35mm film based cameras. All major comps hav stopped production of these variants.

I am interested in getting hold of one good film SLR camera... before it becomes outdated and becomes the vinyl record equivalent of photography.

So kindly suggest me a cam which is a reasonable professional SLR cam, with good features and design... will i be able to buy a new one, or should i hunt for a second hand only.

The most easy to get film SLR cam is Nikon FM10. You should be able to get it for around 11k. But if you want one of the best SLRs and if you are ready to spend some time searching for it, you should look for Nikon FM3A.

FM10 is not a pro SLR, but its pretty good. You might be able to get most of the electronically controlled 'Auto everything' ones in the market. But buying those now would not be a good idea. Look for manual ones which are relatively easy to get serviced/repaired.

FM10s are still being manufactured, so you should be able to get a new one. FM3A was stopped in 2006, so you if you are lucky you might get a new one or get a good used one.

A used one can be had for a good price.

As for which one, it depends, on which system you currently use. If you have Canon equipment, lenses and stuff, go Canon.

If you're starting fresh, I'd still suggest you go with a Canon as they have a better lens lineup.

Buy used... there are Canon Elan 7NL cameras selling for 50-60$ on ebay. You just gotta watch out. Just FYI film bodies are still made. Production has not stopped.
