According to wikipedia the 3G telecom service 3G - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia is bundled with internet, voice, TV and data. But most telecom companies are selling the 3G services separately 3G data is different from 3G voice + internet.

TRAI is in slumber. Can any one person in India wake up and loudly say that either they need to change the defn of 3G as specified by IMT or the services bundled by the telecom companies in India has to be redefined.

TRAI cannot intervene in such matters. Prices are driven by market forces in our economy.

I can only blame govt for this horrible situation of 3G. They should have shown atleast little mercy on the operators during the auction.

well, vodafone launches UL 3G at 700 bucks.. no FUP.

Read in some forums, one guy said he downloaded some 8MB past some limit and he was charged Rs. 900.

I really dont know what's happening in this Country(except India win WC, hurray!!!)

dude there is nowhere in the world where u are going to find an unlimited Internet connection on 3G network. that billed anything less then the price to buy a small country. even AT&T us, has a FUP of 2GB.

UL without FUP @ 700 INR is steal deal !

Even one of my friend was saying same about VF, but he said it would be 600 INR

The 3G standard is only concerned about meeting the technical specifications of the network set forth by IMT and has nothing to do with the services offered.

@Ramsrambo, always dont go by what wikipedia says. There is no hard-and-fast rule that 3G has to be offered in the way as shown in that wiki.

3G is just a technology and operators are totally free about how they offer the services.

Well there is no need to moan about FUP and all this limitations...Blah blah blah! This has been going on for ages now.

The first thing is its all over the world. FUP is everywhere. In UK, every major network operator highlights their plans as unlimited but down below you can see a condition that 500MB cap...WTF!!! And nobody does anything.

So, in India if you get 1GB for Rs. 700, i would say we are blessed :)

Secondly, for most people a 1GB cap would be sufficient. It would be years before we get to a point when 3G/4G would be truly unlimited.

The good thing is once 3G becomes mainstream in India, small operators like Giffgaff (UK) will turn up who will start providing truly unlimited internet and then the scenario might change.

So, wait and watch. We cannot change how the government works unless there is a mass uprising and do you really think its required for this :P

Since long, I/We have been complaining how bad is Indian government and its policies. People who have been abroad will know what policies are followed in other places. Our virgin media connection went out for 2 days and we couldn't say anything to anybody. Customer service is too dumb to even talk to. We are much better placed as atleast we can call CC/drop by a CC center and get things sorted and at our convenient time (Damn Airtel I miss You :P).

Guys, enjoy the 3G wave :)

Apologies to anybody who felt offended by what i mentioned. Those are completely my personal views at this point :P

If it turns out to be anything close to our mobile phone connection industry,I'm all for it .

What is the point of having a 3G connection with caps like that? Even my shitty Vodafone GPRS gives me 2GB for 100 bucks a month. Pay 7 times less for twice as much data. And it's not like I can take advantage of the 3G speeds with a ridiculous bandwidth cap like that anyway.

You are right. Dats the reason why i have mentioned that for most people, it would be sufficient. For some, it will not be and dont worry there would also be companies coming out for catering to this segment as well...Just it would take time. 3G is just arrived. Think of HD. There are so many HD channels but we get only a couple of them. Wait my friend :)

And yes I am like a data freak in HD and all data hogs but still get the work done with 1Gb cap here in UK (In March i just used ~350MB after being all the day online for a month, courtesy 3G watcher). And so do all my friends. So if you have internet at home, 1GB cap is good for being in touch with everybody and watching those occasional videos. It would definitely not suffice if you want to watch a movie online :P

1 GB is pretty good for using net on mobile. But at what cost??? Almost all the operators are charging ~Rs.700+ for 1gb! Thats outright absurd!

You can't say even in UK/US they charge 700(convert to their currency), so whats the big deal if they do in india! Consider the purchasing power of americans and indians!

Current 3G plans are dumb. Operators have created a Lose-Lose situation with such plans. They are going to fail miserably. Period.

I am still sticking with 2G GPRS. I pay Rs60 for 2GB for that. I already have internet at home and office, I do not see the point in investing so much money for 3G. I do not know what is the point of all the 3G hoopla. Its obviously too expensive for normal usage.

+1. Even i am sticking to 2G for the same reason. Moreover in Airtel, roaming 2g is free but 3G plans are not applicable while roaming. Do not see a point with such high prices!
