Hi all,
Does anybody know if the 3rd generation (based on Intel's tick-tock model) the new 22nm tri-gate transistors, have they started hitting the market ?

I'm looking for an Intel icore5 based lappy with some decent graphics and 16" - 17" monitor. If anybody knows anything please lemme know.

Looking at Dell's site while they do say 3rd generation Core architecture but are not explicit about it. I'm looking for ones which have Intel HD 4000 graphics and perhaps an ATI Radeon discrete graphics card as well. From what little I know the thermal envelope should not be much at 35 TDP so battery power should improve as well .

If anybody has bought any of the Ivy bridge models and can share first takes compared to say Sandy bridge counterparts will be cool.

My budget is around 60k. Info., experiences all count. Tentative purchase around end June or July mid-week.

On hands experience on IVBs are hard to find now as they have just launched. You have got following options atm:
  • Inspiron 15r/14r
  • HP DV-7012tx, Envy series.
  • Vaio E (14P) series, T series ultrabook (yet to launch, but already on site).
  • Lenovo Z580.

Out of all, if you talk for VFM, Inspiron takes away the crown loaded with best GPU in mainstream laptops in India, without much tussle. If looking for something ultra-portable, look for Vaios.

Also, XPS IB iteration are expected to launch at end of this month.

Asus still better?

Flipkart doesn't have many 3rd gen options available now, which are launched and available in market.

How were you able to filter for 'Intel Core i7 (3rd Generation)' . I don't see the option but then I'm not signed in flipkart.

You don't need to be signed in in FK to be able to chose filter for CPU; just that it comes after selecting budget.

What is the amount of hdd with Dell? I think Dell looks better if you put it like that but was unable to find it on Flipkart

Its 1 TB. What do you mean by if I put it like that? And FK sucks when you're referring to laptop configs, got a hell lot of errors, so don't give its reference. Moreover, its only been 3 days since new Inspiron has been launched, so will take time for FK to stock it.

JuGGa What I mean by saying "If you put it like that" means weighing all Pros and Cons :) yes, I too saw lot of Errors on Flipkart but generally they are good so not referencing them is a bit partiality to them...
Can you share a link for Dell Inspiron 15R?
Thanks

@paarkhi - Here it is - Inspiron 15r Special Edition.

And one more suggestion, if you're a student (regardless of college), or a central govt employee, then you can avail 3 percent discount on Inspirons > 38k value. Best would to be source a Dell employee to get a discount of around 10-20 percent :)

@JuGGa i had opposite experience with HP and Lenovo , it turned out that Lenovo was good and HP was bad

Well I can personally vouch for HP's good ASS. Plus majority of forum members' feedback point towards HP, hardly 10 percent or even less say yes to Lenovo. But again, ASS is area dependent, so it may turn out to be opposite for you.
