A new firmware update has been released by Sony for the Playstation 3 after the previous update (4.45) caused havoc among many PS3s. Plus, there is a fix available now for the PS3s which were not loading the XMB.

All one has to do to fix their consoles is to download the new firmware via the internet and load it up on a flash drive or any USB storage device. After that by going into safe mode one can update to the 4.46 firmware update available on the USB storage device and according to Sony, that will fix your problem.

For full fleged instructions you should visit Sony's official documentation of the same here.

People not facing from the issue can still update just like always.

Finally! Looks like the firmware bricked a lot of systems, some of those which had their warranty expired.

I hope none of our forum members chose to do this worthless upgrade. :P

Yeah, but sadly a friend of mine did face from the issue. Told him about it, but he's out on holiday right now. He should be able to fix his PS3, though.
