The Sony 42" W650A looks awesome :D But sadly costs 62,900 everywhere. They claim this can now play mkv and supports more formats than 2012 model.
The new LG 42LS5710 has wifi built in. It costs ~57k from adhiswar (best quote) and ~58.5k from LG store. LG store offers a free universal remote and a wireless headset free. You can even connect a regular or wireless keyboard to this TV in order to type text while browsing.
The Panny model is out of stock at most places and costs 53k now. The newer 2013 model is expected in few days and is expected to cost around 58k.
The samsung new 40" model costs ~58kish.

Leaning towards the LG model now.

How is the Picture quality on the LG 42ls5710. Is it comparable with the sony ones. Also their is no pic of the model on the internet.

You can check it in LG India site. Its actually LN5710. The picture quality is pretty good but I felt the Sony 42W650A had slightly better PQ. But the LG model costs ~5k-6k less and has integrated wifi which the Sony lacks. The LG model also has more ports.

Thanks for the feedback. but it seems it is still not listed on the lg india website.

Any idea what the 2013 model name/number is? In Chennai they said the "new" model is the EM5D which is actually a step down from the E5D and uses a VA panel too.

Any comparisons against VA panel TVs? Do the LGs have glossy or matte finish panels?

That is the older 2012 model. The new LG one is LN57 series and has built in wifi and TV recording.[DOUBLEPOST=1368954552][/DOUBLEPOST]

Worth the risk? Does sony service TV's (paid ones) if its from the grey market?
Yes ,they do a paid service as long as you don't mention to them that you bought yours from the grey market.
Whether its worth the risk its subjective ,i mean your gamble only applies to the 1 years warranty.

Yep checked infibeam too. They seem to have better pricing than the stores. Sadly they don't have LG 42LN5710 model. ezone online has the LG for 56.5k online but the store quotes 58.5k!

@adder - The Sony model 42W674 which has wifi built in is available for 50k from ebay! The seller is in Chennai and says he ships the item in a wooden box to keep it safe. Sadly no Bangalore seller with reasonable pricing. Might consider that if my wife allows me to get one from grey market!

The newer model is EM6D/EM6 according to Bangalore dealers and they said it is expected to arrive in a week or 10 days.

Sadly the panny EM5 model that is available for ~47.5k from flipkart is off the table since flipkart doesn't seem to ship TVs to Blore anymore! Even couple of weeks shipping was available for most TV models to Bangalore. Don't know why they have removed Bangalore shipping from all their models.

The grey dealers in bangalore also get their lcds from chennai it comes via train. It should be cheaper in bangalore grey since ebay charges total of around 12% as commission including paisa pay transaction fee and seller fees.So it should be cheaper by atleast 12% when bought outside ebay in chennai ,a bit more in bangalore since these guys have there own margin and freight charge.

In case you don't know where grey market is its in majestic,in the street where gandhi bazar is located in building named Sukh sagar mall is one typically finds finds lcd tv.

@DarkAngel Are you talking about this listing for the 42W674 - http://www.ebay.in/itm/BRAND-NEW-SO...ons&hash=item4d0c904899&_uhb=1#ht_7894wt_1139
I talked to the same seller some time ago, and he told me the same - that he will ship it in a wooden crate by Fedex to Bangalore.. I am hunting for a sub 50K TV for my brother, and this seems the best bet now. Do I have any other better options?

Yup the same listing. As far as my TV hunting went, among the grey market ones this seems the best bet. The TV looks amazing and PQ is also pretty good.[DOUBLEPOST=1369110360][/DOUBLEPOST]

Which city are you in! That seems an excellent price for the model.

In Bangalore, you can buy it from sukhsagar mall, why pay extra ebay fees and fear for transit damage.

Well the place where i used to buy my lcd tv in sukhsagar mall now accept credit cards, although not sure if they accept for grey items purchases ,since there was a guy with samsung T-shirt in their shop selling samsung phones/tablets.

You are allowed to carry stuff that weighs 50kg - 70kg or so depending on the class you travel in. So it shouldn't be an issue I guess. Just cover the box with some other cover and just slip it under the seat.
