Allrite have seen these articles on many sites, well about time TE has one. Kindly help me out here guys, and the mods later on compile it and make it a nice thread,, :cool2:

CPU : AMD 64 2800+ (Socket 754) = 5200
Mobo : Asus K8n = 5300
Ram : 512 mb Transcend = 3000
Gfx : XFX 6600 GT = 11.7 k
Monitor = Samsung 793s ( I prefer Samsung over LG due to its service.) = 5500
HDD = 120 GB PATA or 80 GB SATA = 3600
Optical : Liteon 52x CDRW = 1300
Speakers : suggest one for 1500
Cabinet: Very Important get one with atleast 2 exhaust fans, one intake, one outake.= 700
PS : VIP 350 watts = 600
Mouse : Logitech MX 310 = 2000
Keyboard : Logitech = 300

40 K Approx.

The point being 40k budget, thats like a max an average gamer can spend. Any suggestions please add.

Firstly try to increase budget,

secondly you are spending too much on mouse.
Try to save each penny

120gb 7200rpm is for 3200
sata for 3900-3950

the ram should be for about 2400-2600
price went down

Thanks for the config, I am recommending this to a friend of mine who has similiar requirements, but he needs it at about 35k. I am going to ask him to buy a plain 3 button mouse, 15 inch monitor, and if neccessary a non asus motherboard and a non pro or whatever is cheaper version of the graphics card. Any other recommendation?

Times have changed quickly, I wouldn't have thought such high performance components would be available for a mid level budget

btw hardboy, read carefully man, he is giving information, he does not want to buy a new pc.

Thanx for the info, whats a gaming PC without a gaming mouse !! Also 40k is a pschyological limit. Are you sure those are Transcend memory prices ?

1. Get a 17 inch monitor, 15 inches are not worth it.
2. Get a standard optical mouse.
3. Get 80 gb PATA HDD
4. Dont compromise on a gfx card, if he is an gamer.
5. Get Asus K8s mobo

Dont ever do that, a 15" monitor is useless with cards like 6600GT, and yeah buy Microsoft Wheel mouse optical 1.1a(if available) else stick with MS/Logitech basic Optical mice ;)

Thanks for the good advice, Aces & Hooligan. Well yes he does want to play games, though I don't think he is much concerned about playing them at high settings, low or medium would do. He is just concerned that he be able to play some things like Half-Life 2, or Max Payne, and it be future proof till he can upgrade again. About the monitor, I shall leave it to him.

CPU : AMD 64 2800+ (Socket 754) = 5200

Aces i would suggest to go in for a Ms wheel mouse optical for Rs. 800

2) 80 GB PATA drive for 2600
3) 2 x256 pc 3200 ram = 2700
This will save us Rs. 2500 from the prices what you have posted.
This we can invest in a better psu , say 400 watts VIP , Powersafe etc... and instead of spending only 1500 on spks

we can fit in an ATP 3 (2.1):D
p.s. ideally a 3000+ winnie + nf4 chipset m/b would be the best , but i guess than the budget will overshoot slightly.
@ chaos,

although the Radeon XPress 200 board are very good for an average pc user but for even a semi-hardcore gamer the on-board graphics will not be suitable or be an optimum solution.(unless the user is willing to spend in future and get a "Real" gfx card.)

Again guys increasing a budget a lil will never stop. Hence the 40k barrier.
@deejay, point noted but I would prefer a better mouse > better speakers, as a gamer.
@ Chaos, onboard gfx sucks at gaming, besides the thumbrule for gaming a better gfx >>>> better proccy.

well, yes its pretty hard to find that these days, but i got it a month or so back for 850 bux and i think its still available, so u can keep that. also, as the prices of the RAM has come down now, u can invest the remaining money to buy better speakers or a good PSU.

and deejay, what use is 2x256 RAM? coz 754 socket dosent support Dual channel memory naa..

and regarding the cabinet, i wud suggest that Gamebomb cabinet that Darky has, costs around 1200-1500 i think and comes with 350W (?) Kunhar psu...

Naa I'm talking about getting the gfx card as well and overclock the winnie.

Ms wheel mouse optical is adequate for any game and it is avialable since i bought one last month.
saving on a psu is not a good idea. since the stability and the performance of the m/c is more important.
@ rave , i had recommended 2 x 256 for flexibility and keeping the future upgrades in mind. but i guess the prices of memory being so low it does not matter anymore, since the user can get another 512 mb stick if needed in future;)

so either 1 stick of 512 mb or 2 x 256 dual, any can be selected.

CPU/Mobo : AMD 64 2800+ (Socket 754) + Asus K8N = 10000
Ram : 512 MB DDR400 Hynix = 2600
Gfx : XFX 6600 GT = 11700
Monitor : Samsung 793s = 5500
HDD : 120 GB PATA/80 GB SATA = 3600
Optical : Liteon 52x CDRW = 1300
Speakers : Altec Lansing ATP3 = 2900
Cabinet: VIP 400 watts = 2000
Mouse : Microsoft Wheel Mouse = 800
Keyboard : Logitech = 300

Putting in all the suggestions.
Total: 40.7K

Couple of my opinions:
- CPU/Mobo: Socket 939 would definately need a bigger budget
- RAM: 512MB is the bare minimum for games aint it? 1GB perhaps, but the gamer needs to decide which other component to cut down on.
- HDD: Sacrifices can always be made here, as its always easy to add an additional disk for capacity. But bigger capacity disks are always faster.
- Optical: Now this is a tough one, as games these days are starting to show up on DVDs as well, so with just a cd-writer you could be stuck.
- Speakers: While the ATP3 is good, we should also note that they are musically inclined speakers and as such arent of much use to the gamer who just needs decent sound, and is more inclined to like multi-channel sound.
- Mouse: Aces had a point there, wouldnt a gamer prefer a gamer's mouse like the MX series?

@ crazy_ eddy,

just for my info. are these the latest , current prices. ??
For there is a difference of Rs. 500 on the cpu + m/b then what was posted by aces above.
considering that the prices are indeed current and latest the total still comes to 40.7K , i.e. Rs. 700 more than our budget.

i know this is insignificant amount but let us try to remain strictly within our budget.:cool2: otherwise we will loose focus and soon our budget will touch 50K.:D
let the 40K be the final ultimate cost.
so guys let us fine tune it further......
my suggestion:

1) go in for a 80 gb hdd. that will save us 1000.

so the cost will be 39.7K
2) ATP3 spks: let us go in for a good set of speakers in the 2 ~ 2.2 K range.

This will save us say Rs. 800

so the cost comes down to 38.9K
3) now instead of a cdrw we go in for a dvd + writer combo. this will cost us around 2200 ~ 2300. hence add approx 1K more, so the cost comes to 39.9K

which is within our budget.
that balance 100 can be used to buy 2 extra case fans etc...;)
let more suggestions pour in guys .......

HYnix 512 ddr 400 is 2200
so u can put the left 400 and the 100 for fans, total wud be 500, add that to the speakers and get ATP 3 :D
