Hi everybody. I am glad i found this thread. In the past 1 year or so, i must have created more than 10 similar threads in this forum asking about which full hd screens to buy. Have waited long enough, but there are so many models to choose from with a wide range of features that its driving me nuts.

Went to many showrooms and you all know how salesmen specially in our country are. Some dont know sh_t, the rest are least bothered and others just want to push on you to buy a cheap product by talking all sweet stuff. I have listed my requirements below. Please help me take a wise decision.

My purpose is watching HD movies and gaming.

So i also need the 100hz/200hz function to prevent blurryness/Ghosting etc...

42" size.

"Smart TV" not important. Picture quality, colour reproduction, BLACKS and sound should be very good.

1. Budget. : 40k-47k.

2. Viewing distance : 10-12 feet approx.

3. Sources/inputs such as HD DTH/consoles/stand-alone media players etc: Tata sky, PS3, AC Ryan mini HD player.

4. Preference for plasma TV/LCD TV/LED-LCD TV : LED as it consumes less power plus better contrast.

5. Preference for brands : LG/Samsung/Panasonic

6. Willing to purchase it from the grey market? : NO

7. Ambient lighting conditions of the room : Well Lit/Bright

8. Any other feature you are looking for such as 3D support on the HDTV, DLNA capabilities etc: Should have 100hz/200hz motion technology. 3D not needed.

9. Models considering to purchase: LG 42LV3730, Samsung UA40D5900VR, OR any other worth looking at.

I cant edit my post above as TE wont let me. I can stretch my budget little more if a HDTV is worth it.

I have been looking at some different LG and Samsung models also but dont know which one is better. Please help me out guys. I have posted my requirements above as well.

LG 42LV5500 (100hz)

Samsung UA40D5000PRMXL (100)hz

And what is the difference between Samsung UA40D5900VR and UA40D5000PRMXL apart from "smart tv" feature and design?

Do they perform the same?

D5900 is higher end model, having better PQ/SQ/Picture scaling with less juddering+bluring( due to high refresh rate )and smart features which makes it in different league from D5000.

If you are considering D5000 then it would be better to consider D5500.

At your budget you wont get Samsung 5 series from official retail market.

Read some reviews for further descriptions on both Samsung model's.

And what you think about LG? Which LG model comes under the same league as the two samsung models you mentioned? Preference is again 100-200hz for gaming and what i noticed in new LG models is that there is a picture calibration option which can be a nice thing to have if i want to calibrate picture right out of the box. Is there a similar feature in Samsung models?

I just want to know which is the superior and best Full HD (non 3D) 40"-42" LED screen out there for fast paced games and HD movies. Plasma is not an option.

Does the Samsung UA40D5900VR has a out of the box calibration option in the menu? I am confused man. Plz help me out select the correct screen for my purpose (Higher refresh rate, Best PQ/SQ, in built calibration option etc).

And what panel is better? IPS, SPVA? Samsung UA40D5900VR is what panel?

LG is as good as others but i didn't liked the picture quality of what i was shown or may be i was obsessed with Samsung/Sony name.

100 or 200 HZ has totally different meaning ....i can say for sports,TV should have High Refresh Rate in tune of 400 Hz or above( True Refresh rate ) which only Plasma's have.So for LED go for 200 or more published motion rate but to be honest LCD's can not go over 120 Hz ( company making TV's add's picture strobes of 50 or 100 Hz on native motion rate of TV's )only high end LED's have 120 actual motion rate others have 100 Hz. So don't fall for this as its all marketing gimmick. All you need to know is that Samsung has 100 Hz from D5500 on wards....Sony has only 50 Hz for EX520.

Sorry have no idea of gaming as i am not gamer but going for higher refresh rate will be better.

Every TV can be calibrated, Samsung needs calibration( default settings will give judders and blurs on HD content.)Sony Ex520 needs just very few change of setting because of 50 Hz

.

Yes D5900 can be calibrated if you need too..

IPS is better but has its disadvantages, SPVA has its own merit and demerits....Samsung D5900 is SPVA ( Samsung Panel lottery ...look this thread's very first post by Gannu for further reading.)

For non 3D LED , options are Samsung D5000/5500/5900 , Sony EX420/520 , Lg 3730/4600/5300/5500/7500.

For me Samsung D5900 is best ( high motion rate / good PQ-SQ ) than Sony EX520 ( Low motion rate ).

If power is not a problem for you then go for Plasma, as they are best for sports & they are far cheaper than similar spec' LED.

Sorry , I don't have much inputs on LG so wait for owners of LG sets.

If i was you , i would go and check every non 3D higher end model side by side with my own HD content and make decision.

That is some useful info bro. Thank you v much. Will take out some time and test gaming and HD content on those screens.
