it may or may not......best option is to try someones 4gig card as a quick check and then buy it....shops at times have open pieces lying around and thats the best way...

They mention that for a reason !
A 4GB card might work but you sure are gonna experience some lag...

I disagree. Nokia phones often support higher capacity cards than they say in the technical specifications, and that too without any lag etc. But as they won't officially tell you what it will really support, your best bet is to google "nokia 5300 4GB" and hope someone else has already tried it.

^^bought a sandisk 4gb @ 400 last week...will be going back in a day or two will let you know the updated price

with Sansa rockbox...you can play mpeg files..it has the plugin for that..but I would suggest you to stick with the original OS for playback for mp3 and vids and stuff...rockbox still has loads of issues..and the major one is battery consumption...

The max card capacity show by nokia is they max capacity they have TESTED the phone with..

Hmmm...

Don't you think they test it with the highest capacity card available in the market !? And then mention it in the specs...

I mean if a phone supports 4gb,why would they mention "Supports Upto 2GB" :S ? OR did they think the customer would experiment with higher capacity cards? ;)

@amitmishra12

So did you get the card? if so,for how much?

Company says anything. Doesn't mean you cant experiment. Even Intel don't tell their customers to OC their CPU. SO?

4gb MSD works fine on a 5300, 5200 eventhough Nokia said those cells supports upto 2GB.

i converted a movie with the sansa media convertor it was 1.5gb :S

Sansa was never meant for movie playback..if you really wanna watch movies on sansa...try to convert them to mpeg with low res..that should do the trick..but don't expect 300-400 meg wonder...

on side thoughts..its been a while since I checked rockbox scene...as I sold off mine..so try to see if they have an Xvid plugin for sansa now..if yes...then good for yeah...

searched a bit now

try this

PluginMpegplayer < Main < TWiki

try the iriver H10 5/6GB 4:3 sample vid...and if that works..try to encode a movie on that codec and res...hope it helps..
