I know that 3gb is the limitation of a 32bit OS and even if you install 4gb it will show just 3gb.

Enable 4GB of memory on Vista: I need my 4GB!

But recently saw the above article which says 4gb on Vista 32bit OS is possible using PAE[Physical address extension],so i was curious if its possible?? coz i was thinking of getting a 4gb kit and would have liked it on a 32bit OS since 64bit OS has application support issues:S

64bit support has been added to most of the apps and even if its not there , most of the 32bit apps run fine on 64bit.

Have been using 64bit since the past 4months, no issues as of yet.

There are no issues whatsoever in 64bit. Drivers available and all programs run fine. Been using 64 bit over a year now. Theres o turning back.

Yes it is possible.. Don't no abt Vista but linux changing/adding extensions kernel [don't know exactly which extensions] even 32bit can utilize 4gb :)

Just like MDV free with 32bit linux-kernel-2.6.27-server did the job.

PAE mod is very old method of doing it but it's not stable and moreover it fails to utilize the memory effectively causing in random slowdowns.
So, stay away and be happy with the RAM the OS shows or move on to 64 bit. :ohyeah:

+1. I completely agree with abhi :)

If you are running a 32 bit server version of Windows, you can use > 3 GB. They disable it on client editions because many drivers don't work properly when you pass in larger addresses.

@HailStone: Stay away. Pathetic as best. Better would be XP x86 + 3Gig RAM. or Vista64.

OK.. In that case its better to use 4GB on XP 32 bit & let go 1GB of it I guess...

Exactly, when people were crying "Where's my RAM gone?",
then Microsoft thought why not show customers that their RAM is back and see everyone's happy coz no one looks into the task manager as to what's happening behind the scene...:bleh:
