I am looking for new laptop. Currently using HP G6 2005AX from 2011 still working solid but due to recent heavy OS and applications its lacking back even after upgrading to SSD and 8GB RAM. I was considering Macbook pro M3 but i mostly use Microsoft apps like remote desktop, teams etc.

Mode: Online / Offline (Croma)
Budget: Upto 1L
Uses: Treading View charts, Simultaneously chrome tabs 20-25 (For 20-30min), Teams.
Preferred Brand: Asus, HP, DELL (Any will do as long they have good service in tire2 city)
Preferred:
1. Metal body or similar but other than plastic. (Current HP is plastic and its hinges are broken even after light handling)
2. 4 Cell Battery - Optional (As long as backup is good)
3. No Touch Screen
4. NO GPU - Optional (It will heat a lot...? )

I am not updated with latest best technology for screens / resolutions so please suggest anything which last longer.

Thank You

I haven't mentioned prices because you can get much better deal offline but all 3 should be within your required ballpark. The screen on the Elitebook is terrible, besides that it should be a well built unit. Better screens are available at higher segments of this range.

Personally, I've had good experience with Asus and upper tier HP (Zbook & Elitebook). Also was happy with Sony Vaio, this brand still exists but under new management, but the team is the same. They have now pivoted to premium products with great QC but hard to find.

Also GPU won't heat a lot unless you play games. While working on documents or web browsing, the GPU is barely to draw the UI and playing video, if any. Even laptops without a dedicated GPU have integrated graphics which perform the same tasks mentioned above.

If looking for windows laptop specifically, See if you can get a laptop with Ryzen™ AI 9 HX 370. This processor is said to better than similarly priced Intel meteor or even lunar lake. It's integrated gpu performance is best so far for any igpu.

And if you're OK with macOS, then checkout macbook M4 air/pro depending on your usecase.

Was 105k some time back, check locally if it can be had for 105k (+ CC offer extra). RAM is soldered, 24GB is fine but 32GB would have been better.

This was 90-95k after card offers some time back. Bit slower CPU & not as efficient as that Ryzen but you get 32GB RAM (soldered).

Every AMD AI CPUs in 2025 supports soldered RAM and weirdly their low end 370/365 AI CPU support much higher & faster RAM (256GB) while their so called AI MAX+ 395 only support upto 128GB RAM all soldered versions. The laptop manufacturers utilizing these AI CPUs still offers 16/24/32GB RAM. AMD CPUs offers better spec, but no utilization at all.

Intel's low end 1XX AI CPUs comes with soldered RAM but the official support itself is 32GB RAM max. Check their 2XX Ultra series, its confusing though.

If you want a higher & faster RAM support in laptops, you're force to shell out insane money or stick to desktop.

Wait a bit, more laptops with new chips are launching near the end of Apr 2025.

Yeah, the current laptop RAM situation with these new AI CPUs from both AMD and Intel is honestly a bit of a mess.

You’re right—AMD’s Ryzen AI 300 series (like the 365, 370, 395) all support LPDDR5x or LPDDR5, but the RAM capacity support is oddly inconsistent:
  • The 365/370 supports up to 256GB, but the higher-tier 395 only supports 128GB max.
  • And because the RAM is soldered, whatever you get at purchase is what you’re stuck with.
It’s frustrating, especially since these CPUs technically can handle more bandwidth and capacity, but OEMs often ship them with 16–32GB, leaving that headroom completely unused.

Intel's Core Ultra 100/200 series is also weird:
  • The 1xx series (e.g., Core Ultra 125H) usually tops out at 32GB LPDDR5x.
  • The 2xx “Ultra” series is all over the place some support up to 64GB, some still cap at 32GB depending on config, and it’s not always well-documented.
  • Intel is slightly better on software/driver support and stability, but again, RAM is almost always non-upgradable.

TL;DR:

You're right to say "better specs, but no real-world utilization," especially on AMD’s side. It feels like manufacturers are not aligning RAM configurations with what the CPUs are capable of.

If you can wait, definitely hold out until late April or May 2025, when more Zen 5 and Meteor Lake Refresh laptops are launching. Hopefully, some brands will release higher-capacity configs or even give us SO-DIMM-based options again.
Until then, anyone needing >32GB is still better off on desktop or custom laptops from the likes of Framework, Schenker/XMG, or some niche Clevo-based systems.
Want help putting together a shortlist of upcoming models or good 64GB+ laptops as they launch?

It gets worse with AMD's FireRange (Zen 5) 9955Hx/9955Hx3D support 96GB Max. With AMD the more powerful CPU is, the less Memory capacity it supports. Atleast it is not soldered only design and most wont care for more than 64GB.

With Intel the newer Ultra Processor (Series 2) as they call it has varying memory capacity supports upto 192GB RAM (Soldered/Modular)

I don't want to crap this thread, we should have a thread tracking all the models. I'm also looking to finally replace my Desktop this year, moar RAM is all i care about. :)
