512 mb card or 2 gb card

i have recently purchased n70 and have seen in many review about it having problem with 1 gb card. Now a 512 mb card will be too small for me. But i am afraid if i brought a 2 gb card, then it might slow down the phone.

Please tell me what should i do..... stick with 512 mb or go for 2 gb....

well although there have been problems with certain cards not wrking, it isnt like the phone wont work with a 1gb card... i would suggest u try out the card b4 buying it...
Ofcourse a 2gb card would slow down the phone to some extent, so u can use 2 512mb cards as Hot Swap if u dont want to go for 1 or 2gb

see if u are going to use a high capacity mem card in ANY phone it will be slow... but only in certain areas like

1)opening gallery

2)searchin fr new mp3, video files

The other areas like opening menu, messages , etc will be fine!

anyways how much are u getting the 2 gig fr? Also are u sure N70 supports it?

I think max is 1GB but I am not sure!

Don't think N70 supports 2GB cards, !GB would be nice in-between choice for speed as well as decent storage capacity.

This is what the official Nokia site says, dunno if there is a recent change in specifications

okie... i guess then n70 will not support cards more than 1 gb..... so i will have to settle for the 512 mb card only or have two of them as hot swappable.... my concern was that i have read in many online reviews that n70 have problem with the 1 gb card, it either slows down considerably or hangs.....

by the way where can i get the card at best possible price... i will be visiting laminton road or alpha at andheri..... any other option....... i heard heera-panna would be no good coz it will be costly over there..... what say.....

Well .. the diff. is hardly noticeable ... the only time ur phone might seem slow will be when u switch it on the first time (yup .. hey it needs time to go through 1 GB) ... as soon as its up and runnin i.e. u have opened the menu , phonebook , log etc. etc. it'll be just damm fast ... no matter what MMC u have ..

I'd prefer u to go with a 1 GB ... 512 MB is a bit low ... 1 GB is a real sweet spot ..

And the N70 does support 2 GB cards .. a latest firmware is all u need ....

N70, N90, 6680, 6681 are confirmed and working with Kingston's 2gb RS-DV.

The lag, will be there even on N70. These mobile phones work like a computer, the more stuff you hog it with, the more slower it will become.
Still, I think the lag is hardly noticeable only except certain areas like Aka911 pointed out. The gallery on my 'filled to the brim' 1gb card, takes around 5 seconds to open, and once it indexes (or loads) all the stuff in the gallery, its works fast.

And ignore what Nokia says. They say its expandanble only upto 1gb - That's not according to the 3rd party mmc market, that's 1st party - Nokia's own produced Rs-DV mmc, which only exist uptil 1gb currently.

you mean the mmc's? I bought two 1gb rs-dv cards. One from the local streets and one shipped over from Hong Kong on Ebay.

The ebay one was actually cheaper even with the shipping. In the streets I got it fro Rs.2900, from Ebay it was Rs.1800 something with shipping.

Both came out to be fakes, though. They work well, but cause lag when video recording.

Lag in video recording could be due to other issues ... anyway .. i'm pretty much satisfied with my 1 GB card ... still about 400 MB left to fill up ..

using Transdescent 1GB MMC Plus in my 6230i, which is advertised as 512 mb supporter,
imho works like a charm.
deathvirus get a gig 2 gigs can slow down the phone.
phones like E50 will do much better on 2 gigs 70 mb internal memory.
also dont forget buy original cards.. fake cards less data transfer rates slows down the phone.

AFAIK even my grand old 6600 supports 2GB (verified by me).The nokia website claims a max of 128MB but we all know its BS.So using a 2GB card on a n70 shouldn't be a problem.

Do yourself a favour and DONT use the built-in gallery. Its damn as hell slow.Instead use fexplorer for file management, resco viewer for viewing photos and pvplayer for 3gp/RM files.

i gonna buy original cards only, but can anyone say how to identify a original one from fake card.... apart from the seal pack and serial number thing....?????

i brought a kingston 1 Gb RS-MMc card from laminton road... skygate..... for 1500 Rs. with 5 year warranty....

Is the price okie... and how are the kingston rs-mmc cards...
