Not from an Overclockers point of view.

As you can see, I purchased a E4300 to tide me over for sometime.. Coz I really miss my long lost E6600.

I needed that performance back!

The 5600+ wont reach anything above 3 - 3.2 Ghz...

The E6300 will 100% reach 3 Ghz and pwn the 5600+ left/right/center.

Infact the cheaper E4300 will do so as well.

As you can see in my sig, its already @ 3.37 Ghz from 1.8 Ghz.

I havent had much time with this Chip. But I got it to boot @ 3.6 Ghz @ 1.45vCore.

Now whats better VFM? (from an Overclockers point of view)

Also, Intel's price drops are coming soon.. So itll be even better VFM.

Edit : wheeee 6200 spam free posts..

Actually the real VFM is X2 3600+ brisbane.

Buggers are reaching 3Ghz. Almost same as all other brisbanes. And costs 3.3K only.

Now thats what you call VFM.

Adi believe it or not. These AMD offerings are better vfm.

Decent overclocking boards are available below 4k for these processors.

^^ They are. But not for overclockers.

Id love having a brisbane and pushing it upto 3 Ghz. But clock for clock a C2D @ 3 Ghz, will beat the X2.

Im mostly buying a X2 3600 + Biostar board for my gf soon..

If your on a budget, its your CPU.

But Performance vs. Price = Intel C2Ds!

My take on it...

Well its simple... if you don't overclock, the AMD64 cpus are good vfm now after the latest price cuts. If you overclock and can afford a C2D and an overclocking board, by all means go for it. If you are on a shoestring budget, nothing better than a 3600+ and a 690G overclocking board like the jetway/biostar. AFAIK the 3600+ is down to 2900 bucks + 4% VAT in bangalore. One can basically reach stock E6600 performance with these brisbanes after overclocking a bit at a ridiculously low price. They are clearly different market segments :P.

X2 3600+ Brisbane
+Biostar Tforce 550
=$150 /-= Rs. 6750

Plus cooler and it'll easily hit 3GHz.

for the C2D , u'll indeed require a good and stable mobo to hit high FSB's ... and for the AMD , even cheap mobo can do the trick ...

See the amount of extra budget you put in for overclocking. First a Highly overclockable Motherboard of around 9k, then a ASUS Star Ice Cooler which means around 7k extra from normal Config, I would say rather people should invest it in for a better GPU.

For Example:

Consider this config:

Intel C2D E6300 (Overclock it upto say 3 Ghz) -> Rs. 8500/-

Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 Motherboard -> Rs. 9000/-

ASUS Star Ice Cooler -> Rs. 2500/-

XFX 7600GS 256 Graphics Card -> Rs. 5500/-

Total: Rs. 25,500/-

AMD Config:

AMD X2 5600+ -> Rs. 9000/-

ASUS M2N-MX -> Rs. 3500/-

XFX 7900GS 256MB Graphics Card -> Rs. 12000/-

Total: Rs. 24,500/-

Now do you think can Intel C2D in this case beat AMD's performance, even after overclocking?? This is what I want to tell to users that until and unless you have a huge budget there's no point of going with Intel's Core 2 Duo.

^^Gr8 reply!!! ah a bit too fast I was going to post that :P... Well when considered price into concern E6300 even loses with 3600+ as both can hit 3ghz easily the matter of fact that C2D won't do with cheap while AMD will so AMD win .. again.... consider after Intel price cuts E6300 @ 6k still 3k more than Brisbane 3600+ and a rig having 8600GTS with C2d cannot out gun with a rig having 3600+ with 8800GTS 320 MB :bleh: but both will cost same as 8600GTS is 3k less than 8800GTS 320 Mb and difference is major Nearly 20-30 FPS in every game :P Did Intel stand here? :rofl: I did not think so. :bleh:.... SO here too AMD win nor Intel :bleh:

how about a e4300 + 945 ,it wont oc like 965 but still good enuff to take that to 3G...

Better u bee of with X2 3600+ with Biostar T550 :hap2: It will beat above config easily .. or go for a mb with onboard gpu like Asus M2 NX:hap2:

yeah AMD X2 3600+ + a good graphics card will beat the shit outta a C2D with a crappy el cheapo GPU, both configs costing the same as arnov pointed out..

In short,

So intel is the obvoius choice for those who dont game, or have a decent budget,

whereas if ur budget is tight and you wanna game, then AMD is the obvious choice

just my 2 cents :D

Geez..u r talkin like u are still in 2005..times and procs have changed bro.. the C2ds are game enough for 'games'..:P

all tht talk of aMD being better for graphics doesnt hold all tht true any more..c2ds are equally apt and shud i say better off in some benchies related to graphics..all reasons to go for amd x2 today is the price point at which they are selling higher procs at comparable prices of lower C2Ds.. Tht aspect too is going to be favorably countered by the Intel's price cuts..m waiting for it to go E6600..:D

And no..i'm no fan boy of intel as i also got a 4200+ system at home...recently bought for my sis..but as a true blue enthusiast cpu, i'll prefer the E6300 anyday...

Asus 7900GS 256 MB are under 10k's now ... so that's even more affordable ...

Noone is saying that X2 is better at gaming.

But most of today's game are restricted by GPU.

In same budget you can get much better GPU if you opt for X2.

GPU will be the limitation in the end. And its not like these X2s are darn slow, they are not.

And that makes it overall better gaming setup in same budget.

You get to go 1 step up on GPU if you choose AMD.

Dont get me wrong, i own a C2D setup. But both the new setups i am building are Brisbane based for pure VFM functional machines.

IN country like india, budget is the main driving force M8.

And AMD is ruling there at the moment.

Times have changed dude, along with a good CPU a Good GPU also matters a lot!! I have seen in newegg.com people are coupling AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+ with XFX 8800GTS 320MB, don't you say that's an intelligent move with tight budget.
