Guyz,
My little bro was pestering me for a new video card b4 leaving  .I have two choices-
9800pro for 7.5k new (128mb,256-bit)
6600gt for 9.9k new
Aside from the fact that I'm an NVidiot :P ,which do you think is better?VFM wise that is?
Of course,if someone offers a decent 6600GT to my thread in market section I'll go for that.

A second hand 6600GT if u can get it is a better deal I guess. If you can spend 10K, cool otherwise a new 9800 for 7.5K is not bad. Where are you getting it at that price?

Only b'coz I am not in a mood to spend too much. The Gainward sounds good but is it agp? Will confirm with Mediatech.
BIG also has a rather interesting 6600GE with 300mhz core and 900mhz ram(??) listed on their site. But can't be sure without actually seeing the card if thats true.
Anyway I'll take a good 6600gt from a reputed person if it is offered.
About the 9800P:seems a few shops in NP have got new stocks of these at the revised U.S. rates($130) and so are selling them for 7500 bucks.
Aces:My grouse against ATi was their India pricing primarily, now it seems atleast that is improving.
Got till Saturday to decide and buy.

Well, called up a few guys in NP and here are the 6600Gts :
BIG(BBC's new brand):9900(9500+vat)
Gainward:10500
XFX:10700(being phased out as BBC has its own brand now).
I also called up the guy selling the 9800pro twice and ate his brain about bits and bytes, lol,he insisted and then read from the pack(or so he said)that it was 128mb ,256-bit.
So its toss-up between the BIG 66gt and the 9800p vfm wise I think.
Ofcourse a second-hand 66gt is still my first choice.

Yeah but difference in DOOM3 and Riddick is too great to ignore. Most likely will buy Darky's 66gt.
Also I have little experience with radeons and their drivers and "issues" and have no time to do so.With a 6600GT ,all that will be needed is a forceware driver reload.

Get the 9800pro, you're saving 2500 for a card equal in all games except doom3.
It's equal in doom3 also once you turn off shadows, that's lame though.

Spend the saved 2500 on 1gb ram.

Awaiting Darky's reply.I have almost made up my mind on the BIG 6600GT,preferably darky's .ATi users have too many issues.I think there was thread today in games section about GTA: SA locking up on ATi cards....better safe than sorry.
And 6600GT have a tendency to oc atleast 10% without issue(with some luck)and a 6600GT at 550/1100 will probably blow a 9800p away.
About the ram:no intention to upgrade it now,768mb is fine. :cool2:

in some games 6600gt didn't run at 1600*1200
try games with aa and af and tell which is better in particular games,gt or pro
try halo:combat evolved and hl2, see the review of these

though overall gt is better
but may in each respect
