Really a bad day for me..:@

A Seagate 7200.11 9Q Series 500 GB HDD (JAMPACKED only 100 MB Free), isnt getting detected.

As in BIOS detects it but Windows does not..

1) The problem arised last night. When i was unable to access certain folder.. It said Folder inaccesible (or something of that sorts).. After that..restarted that system.. After Loading screen, Windows just won't start..

2) Disconnected the HDD and started instantly.. Connected HDD again and same problem but this time after long wait, it did start but didn't detect HDD.. All this while, BIOS detects the HDD..

3) So thought that there might be some problem with OS so installed an previous XP image. This time after bootup.. It said there is some problem with the HDD and ran CHKDSK.. While doing that it also recovered the files that were inaccessible and CHKDSK finished all the stages. Again surprisingly it did not detect the Drive or HDD..

4) Though error might be with Sata Port or something so Used the USB casing but no help.. same issue, it doesnt detect in Windows.. Or at times shows it as Local Disk which is unaccesible, Also at times got error lik I/O error.

Now I am clueless as to what can be done to recover the data. "Trying Power Data Recovery - Deep Scan" - There are like million read errors and still it hasn't detected even single file..

Any ideas, solutions, suggestions ?

Bullshit seagate :@ :@ , never should have trusted it.. Was better off with Samsung and Hitachi all these years..

Time for RMA i guess

On a side note:

This is the precise reason why i backup everything on DVDs rather than HDDs, however cumbersome they are

Just think on again downloading/getting back another 500GB of data, which got lost in an instant

Nobody can vouch for the reliability of a harddisk

500 GB == 100 DVDs... Also aren't DVDs more prone to having Cyclic Errors after some time..?

I wonder what might have triggered the damage.. There was no extensive use or formatting or partitioning.. Crap..

But the risk of all the DVD going bad are zero. Even if 90 percent stay true after 2 years or so It is I guess acceptable. Moreover you can have bad sectors in Hdds too that is similar to corrupting a DVD in collection.
