buy the Powersafe 500W for 2.5k, the Coolermaster eXtreme Power for 3.8k or the Antec Basiq 500W for 4.5k

you will not regret your purchase later if you get one of them

if you have a little higher budget try for the Corsair HX520W or the Corsair HX620W

Look at my config ... all on a 400W PSU .. but the psu u've mentioned has around 17A across 12V ... thats not recommended for any config. nowadays ...

I am running a 7900GS on a 400W Powersafe PSU. 12V @ 20A. I would not suggest anything less than this. check out the higher rated CMs, not the 380W model.

As long as you are not going to run SLI, you should have at least 450w for decent performance. If SLI, you will need at least 650w :)

^^lol..where did you get that info?..:)

the corsair 520 or any other quality sub 600w ps is pretty much able to run sli..what really matters is the amperage and stability of the 12v rails.

unless of course you have dozens of raptors churning away in your rig..:D

Didn't say you couldn't... :) just said you should have more...

This is from the proverbial horses mouth ;) Nvidia.

Here is the link look at at the bottom of page... and remember this is minimum recommended, not the best ;) for a single card..... and yes it is for a 7950 GX2 but it still gives you some idea of requirements

Q: What is the recommended power supply for GeForce 7950 GX2?

A: The minimum recommended power supply for a single GeForce 7950 GX2 is 400W (with 12V current rating of 27A).

^^did you know the 7950gx2 is two 7950 gpu's pressed to the same board..?
they are G71 gpu's, same core as 7900gt and gtx..

it is the same as an sli..:)

also note the magic phrase in brackets..27A in 12v..

:blushing: no I didn't, I stand corrected... thanks

I answered without thinking too much, my own setup most definitely needs more power.

I always think terms of upgrading and longer term investments as I don't like to spend money twice for the same thing. My philosophy has always been to spend a little bit more if I can swing it, that way when I buy system upgrades, I don't have to upgrade everything :)

The biggest chunk of my $'s always goes to the mBoard, as this determines how long I can keep going with the same system.

I just ... very recently upgraded from an AMD 64 3200+ on a 939 mBoard, I had a 450w power supply that is barely sufficient for my current new setup :)

you've got the absolutely right philosophy..:)

PSU quality is not something u should skimp on..

but better not go for unnecessary spending, if the money can be put to better use..:P

:) I don't do major overhauls very often, I kept the last system going for 2.5 years.. with minor changes.

I agree about unnecessary spending, I guess I have learned that sometimes spending a tad more, can save money in the long run ;)
