I have a XFX 8600GT 256MB DDR3...I ran Windows Vista Experience Rating

What is this wiered thing ?

It says total available Graphics Mem as 1023MB
Dedicated Gfx mem 256MB
Shared Gfx mem 767MB

what does this shared denote ??
Is my main mem (RAM) getting shared ??

Hey buddy it's not a bug.

It's just that Vista's architecture takes memory as graphics memory whenever it needs it. Every MB of memory is treated as a block of graphics memory to boost the Aero interface. The dedicated one shown is ur total video memory & the total shown by vista is the total available memory for video operations.

Don't Worry Dude... it's still 256MB ;)

It's just one of those 'new features' of Microsoft Vista, which lets you feel that Vista is better ;)

he may have hit upon something here .. mebee its not a bug Vista found a way to share the extra memory ?

It's not exactly sharing. What microsoft says is dat it is just a means of running the aero interface better. It has no role of improving performance in games.
So, for the gamer, it's of no use, just a means to make him happy in seeing ahhhh... i have 1024MB of graphics memory:hap2:

I guess Vista is using up my main mem....which is not good ...when i have a video card with its dedicated memory...so this does not look very good ......

Vista does not use up memory and slow down apps. It releases the memory when another app requires more memory and none is available. So, don't worry, there is nothing wrong.
