Graphic Cards 8800 GT @ 80 Degrees C in 3d mode

Its an MSI 8800GT OC edition(stock cooling) which never gave me a problem until yesterday.I usually play assassins creed and Battlefield 2, it goes on fine until suddenly the game locks up for about 1-2 mins and then comes back to normal. This happens every 10-15 mins of play. Thought of checking the temps in riva tuner 2.08, it was nice and cool at 59-60 C when not playing but, ingame it shoots to a terrible 80 C. I got the card back to factory settings, still the same thing. I increased the fan speed to a noisy 100 %, still nogo. My overall system performance is pretty sluggish too. I am using 7.15.11.7474 (174.74) version of drivers. What can be done to avoid this as i never had problems before with the card. Is it because of the drivers or is it because of the modding inside the case (CCFL's n stuff) thats making this card angry?
 
hmm, the 8800gt i just bought idles at 70 and loads at 80...used nvidiatemplogger to get the info

i assume thats bad?

case is open, no obstruction below the card either
 
the only things touching the card on the sides are the power cables and the IDE cable.. they are'nt touching/obstructing the card from below. Infact i have a 120 mm Antec Led fan (attached to thermalright U120A) blowing just above the card. Fan speed still at 100%. Now downloading the latest non-beta drivers (169.25) to see if makes any difference.
 
those temps are slightly on the higher side , i guess the 8800GT idles at arnd 47-53C n load temps shoots to 75C .

Ur temps are 6-7C more than usual , it can be coz of some dust accumulated if the hsf . How long u using it for ? Try cleaning the heatsink with a blower .

BTW wat is ur room temp ?

6-7C higher is nothin to get alarmed abt :)
 
i think the issue is somewhere else other than the card itself. dont have more info from ur side, but look around for other causes. maybe driver issues?
 
i think the temps are ok. As the summer is already here, the ambient temps have risen sharply so these temps are perfectly normal.

and Assassin's Creed is an extremely taxing game on the graphics card.
 
hmm.. thats one hot card ... well it was the case with my 8800GT as well, so i got myself a thermalright HR03GT, which is pretty freaking huge.. but does an excellent job in keeping the card ice cool in this scorching heat, around 39-41 C idle and 47-51 C load temps max,

now back to the topic, if u can , try putting additional 80mm fans below the card, i don remember but there was a thread here on TE about how to do it, that might help, oh and dont forget to cleanup the card as lots of dust might have accumulated,

whats the cost of HR-03.. i wouldnt mind buyn that if its keeping my card a bit less angry :( ... i love my card :'(

it starting locking up 2 days back... never happend before. As for assasins creed, i ve been playing this game for say atleast 2 weeks now.. nothing happend before.. it also locks up when playing bf2. I have updated the drivers to 169.25 from the beta drivers (174.74), but with some luck as the temps are still 64 C at idle.
 
bought from KMD .. todphod :) .. for around 2650 back in jan...u should talk to him.. hes got some really great stuff.. HR03GT is really awsome :P
 
8800GT's do run hot .. on days when my room temps were ~35c on an avg. the 8800GT shamelessly crossed the 85c mark :( ... at stock clocks , with 85% fan speed :( ...

I installed a HR03-GT (thankz to KMD) , and now the load temps are ~55c on the hottest days with ambient temps ~39c :( with the oc :D .. and its a hell lot silent !!! worth every single penny !!
 
well i have the same problem to if i get a cooling kit how do i fit it on the gfx card and also my card i s bogught from the us so if open my hs wouldnt i void my warranty?
 
and also how much does the hr 03 gt costs and how do i fit the hs onto my gf card iam a uernoob when it comes to those sorta stuffs please help
 
contact KMD for the HR03-GT .. he'll give u the exact price ...

And about fitting it .. well , first get it then refer to the manual .. simple screw system :P ...
 
but an aftermarket cooler voids warranty rite ? If the card dies in future and is sent for RMA with the stock cooler placed again , will they come to know that the hsf was removed ? :huh:
 
lol.. but the worst thing is .. that the temps are now near 70c when playing Assasins Creed but the overall system performance is nearing NIL. Yes NIL because when i try to click or open any icon or program it thinks for about 2 mins and then executes whatever it wants to .. goddamn sluggish behaviour.. what can be the issue here ?
 
they probably wont come to know .. cuz i removed the stock cooler and there was no seal or anything .. only hassle u might face are the countless screws :D
 
The sluggish behavior cannot be due to the gfx card . Maybe ur computer is infected by viruses or spyware , its a problem with the operating system problem .
