Hi ppl,

Almost got my rig spec finalized, the only things that confusing my brains out is which GFX card to go for...
Read 1000'zs of reviews and still not clear of which one to go for ...
Plz help me out here- My config is -

CPU - E8400
Mobo - Abit IP35-E
Ram - 2 Gb 800Mhz Kingston
Psu - CM 600W extreme
Cabby - CM690
Monitor - LG22"

my budget for the card is upto 22K and dont want a SLI option as deont want to go into tooo much driver details for the setup.

Thanks in advance.

As ur budget is 22K
I would suggest, wait for few days/weeks and go for 9800GTX
Phoenix might have a GO already for it. pls chk Dealer section.

If you r a ATI fan - go for 3870X2

You can add the 9800GTX to your wish list and that would just add to your confusion.....In terms of pure powa the HD 3870X2 is a better...faster...feature rich (DX 10.1) card....with 1GB of memory........and beats the 9800GTX .......

If used properly the HD 3870 X2 beats the 9800 GTX every day, and in every way :D

But X2 drivers are not up to scratch yet, you might want to get an 8800 GTS 512 instead. Your pick. ;)

Just coz you have 22k budget doesnt mean you have to spend it all :) For a 22 inch LCD at 1680x1050 I believe the 8800GT/512 is plenty good... not sure what the latest 2008 games will demand...

i have used a 8800gt along with 22inch LCD @ 1650*1050 almost all games ran really good on it...

even now as i am on my 24incher , 8800gt still rocks while i play COD4 and Dirt will full details on ! @ 1920*1200

Hey mate, no offence meant, but what fps are you getting in CoD4 at this resolution ? What are the settings ? Sorry to interrupt this thread but this is beyond expectations from 8800GT :ohyeah:

Just curious

my 8800GT is serving me well on my 24" LCD for most games like TF2, COD4, C&C3 running at 1920x1200 high quality. so it's good enough for now, and prob enough to last me for another 6 mths when the nvidia GT200 cards are released.

I can't remember where I read it but the 3870X2 has more/better stream processors which future games are expected to better utilise for higher perf. I am also planning on getting an 8800GT/512 to drive my 24 inch LCD, I hope it can perform decently with 2007/8 and older games

Yups- HD3870X2 has 320 *2 SP 's as compared to 112 of the 8800GT...
and the 8800GTS has only 128 SP's ....

If i drop the HD3870X2 and go in for a 8800GTS it wont be a good price-performance ratio cos the GTS costs around the same give or take a couple K's and delivers just 7-10% extra than a 8800GT ....I could be wrong here but all the reviews state the same...so y not go in for a GT altogether :)

But i need something which will work atleast for the coming 2 yrs after tht another upgrade :hap2:

I dont have much trouble with 8800GT at 1650*1050 (except crysis,it was meant for 2037 anyway :P ).

Id advise against X2.I have never been a fan of these GX2,X2 stuff (frankenstein hackslapjob).

Let Nv and Ati stop rehashing these primitive architectures (boy im tired of counting the flavors of G92) ,then u get a better card.

As of now ill advise you to get 8800GT or 3870 and a better board X38/X48 or 790 depending on your priorities..

well if i go in for the 8800GT then defy goin for the X38 mobo but somewhere expecting to see better releases for the X2 drivers cos as of date its the fastest thing in tht kinda budget of 22K as compared to the GTX :juggle:

@abhi24_in : Im in the same dilemma buddy, and after going through almost every review i can (trust me i did :) ) im certainly beginning to like the 3870x2 all the way than the 9800gtx.

So unless u can go for the 9800GX2 go for it. :)

I suggest you something, based on my experience
Dont go for the most high-end/high budget card. Chances are that card will be overtaken by a mid-budget card in a years time.
You will also have a hard time selling them after their glory days

Go for the card which has best price/performance ratio, like mid-high end card.
Now, its 8800GT - It will allow to play all new games at good resolution/high settings (maybe except for Crysis, even highend cards bow to it)

Save the xtra money, put in MF's, shares etc, take it after a year, sell this card and buy a new one with that money which is mid-high card then and continue playing well.

This process will not burn your pockets a lot and you can end up keeping with technology by investing smart

Hope I made sense

@pcgamer - Thanks for ur suggestion..now more inclined to getting a EVGA 8800GT rather than a X2 for now....maybe will buy the X2 somewhere around next yr start by tht time it would have fallen into the mid-end GFX so wud be a hell lot cheaper :hap2:

Dude,

Get the 9800GTX... Its better than the 8800GTX by a few fps' but ones with the latter card wont go fer the 9800GTX cos of the minimal performance upgrade.

If u're goin fer an X38 mobo, get the aBit IX38 Quad GT.. The best VFM performer..
