I recently shifted home and since there was no wired broadband provider in the new area, decided to buy wireless internet. Inquired with various companies and finally decided to go with Reliance. The dealer said - "Yes, we do have a wireless modem. Speed upto 155 Kbps and unlimited usage! Recharge for 3 months with just 1.5K voucher." It sounded too good to be true and I ordered it immediately. Little did I know that I was getting caught in a trap. This turned out to be the Reliance 1X USB Modem and according to me, is a product that should never have been launched. The modem doesn't work half the time (I get some weird error messages.) When it does, the internet speed is pathetically low. Even my dial up was faster than this! I always get Gmail's slow internet connection whenever I login and even small files take ages to download.

One more shocking thing, he device doesn't work on Windows 7 even when they claim so! When I installed the software on my Win 7 laptop, I got errors when I tried to start it. As a consequence, I can't use the modem on my laptop. Even their 'technician' couldn't solve the problem.

When I contacted the shop from where I bought this device, he refused to take it back and when I persisted, said that he would refund only 800 Rs. from the 1700 Rs. I paid.

I am writing this post just to warn fellow TE members. I hope you don't end up in the misery like I did. I am never buying a Reliance product again. They are cheaters!

Now I need your help : can you help me find the Windows 7 drivers for Reliance 1X USB Modem (ZTE AC8720)? I need to make this modem work with my laptop!

Thanks for reading this longish post.

reliance do even s**k with their broadband service.
their plans r good but when someone want to quiet their connention, 7 day process takes time of more then 2-3 months . and the biggest froad is that u connention will be closed with in 7 days and with out the usage what ever time they take for close u'r connention physically , u have to pay the whole bill for the time.
their service is in hands of biggest f****r on earth.

i think you did not make enough research before buying the product. you bought a reliance cdma broadband connection. its lowest speed is about that of dialup of 56Kbits ps i.e around 10KBytes ps.

imo, only people living in major city areas get the full 2Mbps speeds of cdma 2 network. rest get only 1x speed even if modem is of 2x. and this is mentioned on their website too, that the modem will fall down to lowest speed in some areas.

Also, tata photon broadband has its fair share of problems with installation. they do not even give an updated windows installer (which is required if installing on windows xp) with their cd.

had trouble installing it on a friends machine who had xp sp2. installation kept giving cryptic errors about installer failing. only after reading the error report twice and thrice that i saw that the installer was using newer version of windows installer (4.x) than the one in the machine (3.x). :|

maybe you can try updating your windows installer to latest version to solve the installation issues.

not taking anyone's side here, just stating the facts.
