I'm having trouble with accessing my Task manager.

Whenever i try to access it i get an error msg "task manager has been disabled by the administrator" and also the folder options from windows explorer has gone and i a few applications like winamp, dvdfab platinum also do not work (now).

I use XP - SP2.

to me it looks like a virus. coz i did a clean format and after a few days the same problem arises.

I dont have an antivirus installed as i dont have an internet connection to update the antivirus definition files.

So i need to know from where i can get the update files so that i can download them into a pendrive and take them home from my office.

i was thinking of installing Norton 2007 any other recommendations for better antivirus software??? please advise.

Kaspersky 7. Quite resource friendly compared Norton 2007 and also very good scanning. Kaspersky's on-demand scanner has new heuristic scanner and sandbox!!

Kaspersky 7 for sure... and do windows machines without antivirus still exist?? Im really amazed to hear that!!

thanks guys for replies. but my major concern is whether i'll be able to download the updates files and install it at home. or is it like i need to have an internet connection and download them online.

edit: also are the above mentioned softwares, FREE!!!

dude thats a virus ...install avg free n check it up...coz norton takes up a hell lot of memory...meant for only power pc's
n for the time being...to enable task manager ....follow this method
enable task manager

n remember one thing whnever u format ur pc the first thing u shud do even before setting up internet is to install anti virus n a firewall..

AND..avg updates can be downloaded seprately online...n installed later from folder option in its update process...

One more vote for Kaspersky 7

Till 2 days back I was fan of NOD32, just for try I download Kaspersky and it found 3 Trojans which NEVER tressed by Spybot, AVG, ZA & NOD32.

Avira AntiVir Classic, a free antivirus, is better than most commercial ones. You can couple it with Comodo BOClean (also free) and have a complete setup. Avira supports offline updates.
