Guys, is it worth it, selling my Pentium D 820, Asus P5LD2 and Corsair RAM.
And buying an Opty 939 from Switch, the 146. 2 Gig RAM and a DFI Lanparty mobo?
Itll infact come out cheaper if i sell my 3 components and buy the other 3.

Should i do it?
Rig mainly used for Gaming.
Ofcourse ill overclock the Opty 939 like a b**ch!
 
Well if you can do with the "creamy smooth multitasking", then its a good deal :P. Gosh I hate that phrase :@
 
Well i dont know if its really worth going from dual core to single core at this moment.

For now if you overclock the opteron 146 to its max it will give you better performance than your 820 for now in games and mostly in near future too. But what will happen in months to come noone can tell.

It might still be worth it. But remember if you are going in for DFI be ready for some time and patience with it :P

If you dont care about long term productivity get the opteron.

And yeah, good luck selling your Pentium here :P
 
^^ I have all the time in the world.

Also, ill change to a Dual Core Opteron in May or so.

Ill stay with Socket 939 though. :).

And Switch is sellnig a killer Stepping.

Ill decide on this later. Id rather sell it to a TE member for 30k rather than some1 else. :).

Btw, this proccy rocks for Multi Tasking. But thats just not what im looking for.

Anish, CSS > I get 150 FPS, in firefights i drop to 40. Thats Proccessor. Not gfx card.

I tried 1280*1024 and i got 60 FPS in Firefights which proves that my CPU is bottlenecking my System.
 
i'd suggest dont sell it :) if its giving you the performance you need no need 2 sell it.some fps boosts dont deserve the hastle you'll take over building another rig instead stay wit it and get am2 next year or so with 7900gtx if u can.
 
Well, im not that rich.

And i think i can get these 3 components cheaer than what i sell my existing components for.

Im really pissed withmy performance in CSS. It rocks for multi tasking.

It encodes vid's much faster too. But i dont do that so often. I really dont give a damn, about the Vid Encoding and Multi Tasking part of it.

I think im gonna go ahead with the deal, if the stepping allows me to reach atleast 2.7 Ghz easily.

How much is a DFI Lanpart Ultra-D for btw?
 
Well the very fact that you created this thread will prompt your "buyer" to purchase a 146 + DFI ;)

I also suggest you stick with this for a while...:)

Im sticking with it. Ill buy AM2 in May.

Hopefully itll be out then :/.

Anyways, this decision coz Switch sold a 146 already, and the 2nd ones going to x86 most probably.

Sad. :(.
 
the game engine sux. no matter what u buy the fps is still going to go down. its just the way the source engine is coded. it also happens in dod:s & other multi games using source engine.

rest is upto you.

but yes it will perform better than the 820
