hello guys,

as from the title,i just got my macbook pro 13inch yesterday.

I'd like to know what are the applications,to make best use of my mac.

I just love features, and am enjoying the backlit keyboard, awesome trackpad, and battery life.

also,is there any way i have to calibirate the macbook pro battery(to obtain promised 10 hours).

Thank You,

Sriram

Some apps i'd highly recommend:

  • Clicktoflash - A must-have plugin to prevent automatic loading of flash content on a Mac.
  • Adium - All in one IM app.
  • Perian - Adds native support for more popular video/audio formats.
  • Bowtie - Minimal iTunes controller.
  • Handbrake - Great video encoder.
  • App Zapper/AppCleaner - A cleaner way to remove apps.
  • Dropbox - Best cloud sync and storage/sharing app.
  • CloupApp - Effortless way share just about anything.
  • Vox - No frills audio player.
  • UnrarX - Self explanatory.
  • DaisyDisk - A cool way to visualize and manage HDD usage.
  • Movist - Video playback app with extensive file support.
  • GrabBox - Screenshot sharing made easy.
  • iWork - Apple's office suite. A must have for making stunning presentations.

Congrats on your new mac. You'll love it!

Many apps that I use:

MsOffice 2011, iWork - word editing and presentations

Little Snitch - Control over internet data sent/received

Clean My Mac - Delete unnecessary files

Microsoft Remote Desktop - Connect to University/Work servers

Toast Titanium - CD/DVD burning

CandyBar - Change icons

Skype - Everyone knows it!

OnyX - system Maintenance

Space Suit - Different wallpapers for different 'spaces'

And the usual apps like vlc, kaspersky, acrobat, uTorrent, photoshop, etc.

Also, install windows via bootcamp because it is needed for games and stuff (sad but true).

One advice - learn the various keyboard shortcuts of OSX. It makes everything so much easier.

And 10 hours battery only true in ideal conditions... You will get a 7-8 hrs backup for normal usage.

i woulj recco betterzip for any compressed archives

colloquy for irc

transmission for torrents

parallels for virtual machine

you usually need only a serial for the apps available many at places, no need to crack majority of the apps
