First things first, a wattage ratting for a psu is all but meaningless. PSU mfg'ers rate their psu's based on a 70% load at 25C....very unrealistic specs for a home pc. Thus no psu rated at 400W is ever going to actually put out 400W, heck it won't even put out 360W....why, because your avg computer runs near to 40C rather than 25C and with the rise in temp goes a drop in output. The only actual rating to look at is the amerage per rail. Thus if your computer does infact draw at max 300W you will more than likely need the 500 from Antec that Please reccomends. Having such a large psu does not mean you will consume more power ( I can only surmise this is why most people want to use the smallest psu they think they can get away with) Just like any other electrical device it will only draw and output whatever power is demanded of it from your computer. The probem arises when a psu, such as a 380W or 450W is asked to operate near its max capacity at all times...ie 300W output. The longevity and reliability of the psu goes down drastically....the same can be said for the stability of the power it will output. A few mfg'ers like PC Power & Cooling, Enermax and Fortron/Sparkle do infact rate some of their psu's at 40C (PC P&C all of them) And while typically more expensive you are getting what you paid for....so now the question arises....do you wish to risk your expensive computer components on a cheap psu or not. Sadly the PSU is probably the most overlooked component to any PC despite being the most important one. A bad psu in a good computer will offer nothing but headaches, instability and possibly loss of the entire machine (just ask anyone wh has used a Deer or Allied psu) It is not something to scimp on, better to save up and buy a quality psu or risk loosing the entire machine followed is a list of psu mfg's listed by quality supplied to us by fellow tech Oldman:

The thing about Sky Hawk is that the initial PSU's they made were not Dual Rail but was touted as Dual rails... Later they were withdrawn from the market and then the new revisions were dual rails... Hope its clear to everybody here now...

Mods, I couldn't find the existing PSU Quality thread. So please merge :)

Mod Edit: Already posted by TechHead

Again, I would love to hear the comments of Zebronice Power One owners.

Yeah and why L&C =powersafe:mad:
I have powersafe 600w.
Just see my rig on which i am running it.
Very stable, voltages are rock steady with very less fluctuations:cool2:

Opty 170 @ 2.7GHz / X1900XT @ 700/745 3dmark 2006 benching stable on Powersafe 600W.

Need any more assurances ?

Irony is that i used Powersafe 500/450W ONLY on my DFI NF4 Ultra-D.

No problem at all, touched 2.9GHz on 3000 venice.

I guess that sums it all

Well Mercury isn't sold abroad, and even if it is available you will see it under the name of "Kobian".

I posted this list knowing that many members would run to defend their PSU's :p

wasent this list posted earlier too?? I am 100% sure this was posted before.

After that, on same forum the skyhawk comes as recommended and best bang for buck PSU ;)

In india do we have much choice?? You wont get enermax or ocz here. The best selling PSU in india is powersafe and thats in the list to avoid, what can you say?

Most of these PSUs will do fine on normal PCs, some like skyhawk are good even for overclocked systems having power hungry components. What else do you want??

You always need to consider local market situation. These sites will treat most of the components in our PC as crap, people used to trash talk ASUS boards on XS, DFI members and mods considered Transcend as the worst memory you can buy. And D43 crappy useless memory. That tells you all you need to know. make your own judgements. yes go for knowledge their, but dont make your buying decisions because someone cant run their massivly overclocked systems on powersafe. We all know that its not meant to handle that kind of systems.

L&C is good value brand and skyhawk are way underrated on the performance front. There is certain amount of fanboism on both XS and DFI street. Its 100% enthusiast community which has access to more choices than us so its to be expected.

This is what the same dude has to say about antec psus, that should tell you all.
