whats the difference between sata II and pata which one is better ? ?
SATA hard drives have relatively faster transfer rates as compared to a standard PATA drive.SATA hard drives can transfer data at around 1.5Gbps and SATA II transfers are around 3.0Gbps.The power & data cables of SATA are pretty neat and small as compared to the PATA counterparts. The Asus A7N266-VM is a very old AMD motherboard which dosen't have native SATA support.Obviously the SATA drives would be better over PATA drives.

There are PCI cards (even surprised to know that they are available in Kolkata too) to add support SATA (may not be SATA-II) Hard-Disk for any old PCs.
