AAP does it again! Delhi government saves over Rs 100 crores in Elevated Road Project

New Delhi, Jan 16: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi once again proved that infrastructural works can be done even by saving taxpayers’ money. Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal led Delhi government completed a road construction project through an expenditure of Rs 300 crore, while the project was sanctioned Rs 425 crore by Shiela Dikshit led Congress government. By completing road project below the cost, AAP government saved over 100 crores of the citizens.

that is my question too.
they werent the authority issuing contracts( was approved by the shiela govt).
looking at the number of things AAP govt accused the centre of not allowing them to do , i wonder why would'nt the centre intervene here too and make the delhi govt look bad.

I would not be the right person to answer this as I don't live in Delhi. But from what I can understand:
1. Delhi is a state with the some powers (much lesser than the powers that other state govts have) and the centre cannot intervene in them.
2. No central govt. will intervene for a paltry 100-200 crores worth projects. They can invest that energy in bigger scams.

Also, this is not the first time AAP govt has done this. Even last time Venkaiah Naidu praised them for this.

Well, firstly, AAP hasn't done anything. The PWD, Delhi has done this. Secondly, if he has such powers(make roads without centers help) why does he blame the center so much?

Lastly, instead of making tall claims about making medicines free, he should rehabilitate the homeless dying in Delhis bitter cold and stop his crappy rhetorics.

there is a difference between sanctioned amount and tendered amount and amount on completion. this whole thing is a typical headline grabbing without any facts. if in fact aap has found a way to cut costs so drastically then it would be great to know how exactly they did it so that i can be emulated elsewhere in the world.
 
Before I reply, let me declare that neither I am some Kejriwal fan nor Modi fan. I do have a positive opinion on Kejriwal but I am not the person who can debate or decide on how he is ruling Delhi. So I'll put my opinion as neutrally as possible.

I do not know the PWD track record but if it has improved under the AAP govt, then its a good thing. Edit: Apparently Delhi govt. has a PWD minister: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/...s-to-repair-potholes/articleshow/47127022.cms
If he has a power 'A' that doesn't mean he cannot complain the center for power 'B'.

Again, your logic is that he should do a good thing 'A' instead of doing a good thing 'B'. I wonder why not both.
Last time he did make some arrangements for homeless people in parked buses and other public places. Maybe people in Delhi can elaborate if that plan has been executed this time also.

Shiela Dixshit could have tried bringing Delhi police under her control as both Delhi and centre was under UPA.
BJP govt is not willing to give police control to Delhi CM. Obviously, there are logistic and technical reasons too for Delhi police not being under state govt but things could have been handled with more cooperation between the two govts.

It grabbed headline because its rare that tendered amount < sanctioned amount.
The obvious way to cut cost is complete the work before estimated deadlines and check corruption.

the work was tendered during the time of the last govt. also i'd rather not jump to the obvious and go with facts.

kejru is back, doing what he does best! Fooling the people of Delhi, again . He wants an industrial hub instead of a park. I wonder how many crores he would get for sanctioning this.

Done on time and in 30% lower budget saving 100s of crores? That's the miracle called AAP. ;)

Had it been Nitin gadkari instead, he would have asked the contractor to pass his company half the money and keep half of it and then tell you, look it finished on time, praise my fat ass.
