What Happened?
Hackers based in Russia exploited a code vulnerability in our OS to inject some malicious scripts on our server. This was found out before any long term damage could have been done.
What we did?
Since there were constant attacks on our server, we had to upgrade both our OS and install new DoS protection measures to protect the site. The latter will help us tackle such issues better in future.
Are we fully secure?
We have plugged all known vulnerabilities for now.
Any long term plans?
Yes. Very soon we will be doing a migration of some parts of TE to a backup server. This will not cause any downtime though.
And the rest?
- Are you guys looking to sell TE? NO! Renegade was checking something in the market and he had created a "TE for Sale" thread as a joke. For the record TE is not for sale and will never be in future. We will ofcourse avoid any jokes on that topic in future now that we know how seriously, atleast some of you take it.
- Was this downtime deliberate? (to promote F1Fever) No! F1Fever is online for 6 months and if we were even going to think of pulling such a stunt, you would think it would be at the start of a season and not midway. Anyway short and long answer is both No. We know how to promote our sites.
- You guys have lost reliability! Well that is a valid concern if you go by the last 30 days track record of ours. Unfortunately some things are beyond our control. Having said that we are going to take strong measures immediately to improve our reliability. We know you expect the best from TE and we have to live upto your expectations.
