So one of my friends has asked me to post this for him. He's in 10th standard now, giving boards next year. Later on in life, he plans to purse Computer hardware/general computing/designing etc but NOT extensive programming (C++ etc) unless there's no other option.

Also, he'll most likely go to U.S/U.K after 12th.

Now he's in a bit of a confusion, he asked me, the teachers and all but found no help so i'm hoping he might find some suggestions here - What NON-SCIENCE stream should he pick after boards in 11th to pursue his career in those computing streams foreign. Science - He hates like hell - anything but the science! And all the teachers have been scaring him that if he doesn't take P.C.M he would end up nowhere in computing world.

Now what i talled him was Commerce+Maths should be fine enough if he's going outside India. There'd be like over 50 computing courses he could choose from. In fact, both my uncles graduated in Engineering fields from Clempson Univ and that's when they also took commerce+maths, but that was 20 years ago and things might've been changed from then.

However he needs direct convincing since the teachers have been saying otherwise. So if there are any external course he should follow after 10th and what non-science courses he should pick etc then please suggest here. I'll hand over the link to this thread to him.

teachers always bullshit a lot i know people who have done BA and are excellent sound engineers (completely different arena i would say), science definetely gives options but commerce + maths is also dedly combo if it doesnt works out in computer designing he can go for finance... and mint money like anything, i guess there are more people here who can advice on both the fields in details :D

The PCM option completely changes the way you go about handling problems....Call me old fashioned if you will, but I'd still recruit a PCM fella in my team over a comm+maths one....

maybe that answers your question, maybe it doesn't....

But one thing you can be sure of, for once, his teachers are right

Look, if you want a formal education abroad, there is no way you can get in without PCM. Sorry, that is just the way it is.
