Audio ACC encoded files not playing on AV receiver

I have a Marantz SR-4500 AVR, AC Ryan (borrowed from a friend for testing purpose) and Sony KDL-32CX520

I have connected them as following
AC Ryan -> video -> composite -> Sony
AC Ryan -> audio -> Toslink -> marantz

I am using composite as i do not have a HDMI cable and the quality really sucks :(

anyways I have the following queries:

a. video -> works perfectly fine
b. audio -> if the movie is encoded in DD or AC3 it works perfectly fine with the AVR when the audio out is setup to RAW mode on SPDIF on ACRyan
but if i play a movie encoded in AAC format then I dont get any sound through the AVR so I have to change the output mode on ACRyan to LPCM, but when I do so the volume goes down dramatically and I have to increase the volume to around -15dbs while with DD encoded movies I only have to go till -35dbs.

I know the AVR cannot decode the AAC format. so is there a way to convert movies with AAC files to DD or DTS? or is there any other way around.
